Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is a 'Model Citizen'January 30 2009 21:45 PSTShe's one of the biggest actresses in the country and is often referred to as 'the most beautiful woman in the world,' so it's pretty easy to forget that Aishwarya came from humble beginnings before her meteoric rise to the top. The gorgeous gal was born in Mangalore before her family moved to Mumbai. And she's not just a pretty face, Aishwarya was actually a pretty good student and she had planned on a career as an architect! Thank goodness things didn't turn out as she planned! While in college, the Southern beauty began modeling on the side. In 1994 she was runner-up at the Miss India pageant, to Sushmita Sen and went on to win the Miss World title that made her famous in the same year. Here's a little known fact. She also won the 'Miss Photogenic' title at the pageant – and we can see why! Aishwarya went on to London where she upheld her title for a year and became a professional model before becoming the actress that we all know today. Aishwarya made her film debut in a Tamil movie 'Iruvar' in 1997 and then her Bollywood debut in 'Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya' in the same year opposite Bobby Deol. Aishwarya has certainly come a long way from those days, with films like, 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam,' 'Devdaas,' and 'Dhoom 2.' Not to mention her high profile relationships with Salman Khan and Vivek Oberoi, finally leading to her marriage to Abhishek Bachchan. Throughout the years she has modeled for a number of high profile campaigns such as, Swiss luxury watch brand Longiness, Nakshatra diamonds, and probably most notably international cosmetics brand L'Oreal! With L'Oreal, Aishwarya's ads appear alongside Hollywood stars such as, Eva Longoria, Eva Medes, and Heather Locklear. No matter what your opinion may be, there's no denying Aishwarya has achieved a highly successful career since her modeling days, and it's still continuing |

Ek Vivah Aisa Bhi Director: Kaushik Ghatak Cast: Sonu Sood, Isha Koppikar Tough to believe that the film is Tapasya (Starring Rakhee and Parikshit Sahani) remade for today's audience and is also about a young woman who chooses to stay chaste and unmarried until her siblings are grown up and 'settled' although she has an ardent lover. Even more laughable to see the loverboy asking for her permission to 'continue to long for her'. But that alas is the story. Here, both are musicians, falling in love when they enter a music contest (filmed to look like talent contest shown in Milan and Bawarchi rather than Indian Idol or Sa Re Ga Ma Pa), and over what feels like a hundred years the two continue to sacrifice and look longingly at each other while their siblings and friends grow up, get married, and have babies. Miraculously, the two never grow older, and sport not a single wrinkle. But we give them credit: Sonu Sood tries to cover up his lame part by pretending he's Amitabh Bachchan (note his hair, the way he stands, walks, even talks to the mirror!), and Isha Koppikar makes us forget her painfully long chaste role by wearing interesting clothes. Thank goodness, the friends though interesting characters, are unexplored or the movie would've been longer! Ravindra Jain's ghastly repetitive songs with forgettable lyrics numb your senses. Eesha's siblings are as annoying as children can get in a movie: the brother breaks windows, the sister is teary and clingy. Suddenly you find respect for TV soaps. They offer drivel like this over 52 weeks, not three hours |

Deepika
"I don't consider myself a celebrity. I believe that I've had a fantastic upbringing and I believe my parents have kept me really grounded and rooted. I hope that success never gets to me," said Deepika whose "Chandni Chowk To China" has just hit the screens.
"I've seen my father (badminton champion Prakash Padukone) handle success really well and I hope I continue in the same way because I believe that fame and money are secondary things. The main thing is to enjoy your work," she added.
The 23-year-old was applauded for her performances in her maiden venture "Om Shanti Om" followed by "Bachna Ae Haseeno".
She is currently working in Imtiaz Ali's "Production No. 1".

Combat training helped Nandana Sen be less vulnerable
Nandana Sen, who learnt martial arts for a film with Viveik Oberoi, says the training made her less vulnerable as a person.
"I play an undercover cop in the film and the role required me to learn martial arts. I learnt to use a real gun too," said Nandana.
"Earlier, I used to fear being in crowded places. My stunt scenes have helped me overcome that fear. The combat training really helped me come out of my shell and feel less vulnerable in crowds," she added.
The film, which is being produced by Tips and directed by Kukkee Gulati, is different from Nandana's forthcoming release "Rang Rasiya".

Asin's stay in Bollywood not permanent
With several Bollywood projects in hand, southern beauty Asin Thottumkal moved to Mumbai from Chennai but says she has no plans to stay in the city permanently.
"This is not a permanent shift from south Indian film industry to Bollywood, it's just that I had two exciting projects, so I came here," Asin, who was adjudged the best newcomer at Nokia Star Screen Awards for her performance in Aamir Khan starrer "Ghajini", told IANS.
The 23-year-old actress, who was also in the Tamil version of "Ghajini", will be next seen in Vipul Shah's mega budget film "London Dreams" with Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan.

But before that she goes into filmmaker Vipul Shah's next film with Akshay Kumar in the lead. Both Vipul and Akshay, who are co-producing the film, were very keen to get Aishwarya for what they describe as a genre-breaking drama.
Aishwarya has also signed up Excel Entertainment's untitled thriller to be directed by Abhinay Deo, who is currently busy shooting his directorial debut "Delhi Belly".
For the film, Aishwarya will once again team up with hubby Abhishek.
Confirming the news, Ritesh Sidhwani of Excel Entertainment said: "It would be a very stylish thriller to be shot entirely in Greece, Thailand, Istanbul and London.
"My director Abhinay Deo and I want a particular look for the film. We're trying to get the DOP (director of photography) of the new Nike international commercial. If not, there's Jason West who shot our 'Rock On!'. He can capture that subtle sleek look which the subject demands. We want the film's visual quality to be something never experienced by our audience."

Deepika Padukone on silver screen
It was expected that Deepika, like many successful models before her, would turn to acting in Bollywood. She seemed to be taking steps in that direction when she appeared in the music video for “Naam Hai Tera,” a song from the pop album Aap Ka Suroor, an independent album by popular Bollywood singer-composer Himesh Reshammiya.
However, Deepika recently announced that she would make her cinematic debut in a Kannada film, Aishwarya, directed by Indrajit Lankesh. The movie co-stars Upendra. Reportedly, she has also signed on two Hindi movies - Priyadarshan’sforthcoming film, Pirate and Farah Khan’s second directorial venture, Om Shanti Om, which is slated for a 2007 release.

Deepika has also signed a Tamil film opposite Surya entitled Naan Thaan to be directed by Gautham Menon and produced by Ram Gopal Varma and Jyothika.

They company giving her a good amount of figure, but this deal will really help Kangna to boost their career in bollywood.
Let’s take a look at Kangana’s Biography
Kangana Ranaut comes from the hill town of Manali in Himachal Pradesh. She did her schooling from Shimla.
Studying as a science student in Shimla, Kangana had never thought that one day she would work in a film under a reputed banner in Bollywood.
Then Kangana took another step and came to Mumbai to try her luck in films. Her lucky break did not come straightaway, but after a while when Kangana had already tried unsuccessfully to make an entry into the tinsel town.
It happened in September 2005, when Kangana was drinking coffee with one of her friends at a café in Mumbai. Filmmaker Anurag Basu , who had already directed a successful film, Murder , was keeping an open eye for the heroine of his next movie Gangster .

Raveena
"I am very realistic and do a reality check always. So, I want to do something that suits my age because now I cannot see myself doing some silly stuff," Raveena told IANS in an interview.
"I do not want my kids to feel embarrassed. I have to make them proud and that is why I want to do only selected movies," added the National Award winning actress who was in the capital for the inauguration of a kids carnival that started Friday.
She refused to divulge anything about "Just Aap Ke Liye".
Raveena, 34, has joined the bandwagon of actresses like Kajol, Juhi Chawla and Madhuri Dixit, who are full-time moms but don't mind facing the camera if the role is good enough and suits their age.
"Thanks to the changing scene of the film industry, there are no more clichés attached to you being married. Now characters are churned out in such a way that if you fit the bill, you can prove your mettle irrespective of your age and marital status," Raveena said.
"The media too deserves credit for this because they do not allow us to hide and are always interested in knowing about our whereabouts. This helps us in connecting with our fans, who want to see us back on screen," she added.
Raveena bid adieu to filmdom after tying the knot with film distributor Anil Thadani in 2004. She is a proud mother of three-year-old Rasha and one-and-a-half-year-old son Ranbir. She says the two take all her time and running around them keeps her fit and slim.
"I am a full-time mother and the whole day is spent running after my kids. This, in fact, has helped me get rid of my pregnancy fat. They are so active and full of energy that sometimes it gets very difficult to match their energy levels," she said.
"It is a pleasure watching them grow and see their smiles and answer their out-of-the box questions," she added.
Raveena also maintained that being a parent has taught her all those things that her parents used to preach.
"Now I realise the import of what my parents used to tell me when they would say that I will realise the importance of being a parent only when I become one.
"Being a responsible and a good parent is a tough job, but I am sure we will be able to teach them what our parents taught us, and impart all the values that can keep them grounded," she said.
Last year, Raveena was the judge of the TV reality show "Chak De Bachche" on 9X, but right now she is taking it easy.
Rani
"I'm excited to be working with Rani. I have seen so many performances of hers and actually felt - 'Now, that's a performance!'. So working with an actor who has done such good work can be a great learning experience," Shahid told IANS in an interview.
The young actor, who has been riding high on his success post hit film "Jab We Met", is delighted by his association with Yashraj, the most sought after banner of the Hindi film industry.
"Only when you work in a Yashraj film, you understand why people want to get associated with the banner," said Shahid. The as-yet-untitled film is under production.
"Their way of functioning is so professional. The kind of respect that is given to you, the way you are treated and the way work is done is just a fabulous experience," he added. He was recently in the capital as the brand ambassador of Pioneer, electronic car audio and home theatre entertainment products.
Starting off his career by working in music videos and advertisements, Shahid made his Bollywood debut as a background dancer in Subhash Ghai's "Taal". After four years, he made his debut as a lead actor in "Ishq Vishk", after which he got associated with films like "Fida", "36 China Town", "Chup Chup Ke", "Vivah" and the highly lauded "Jab We Met", among others.
Born to acclaimed actors Pankaj Kapoor and Neelima Azeem, Shahid says he is "fortunate" that he will soon be directed by his father, something that he always wished.
So is he nervous or excited about the project?
"A little of both. I consider myself very fortunate because I feel my father is the best actor in the industry - not one of the best. And to be directed by an actor who has worked for 30 years is simply great."
"He is stepping down from acting for a few months to direct a film just for me. But I'll make sure that he continues his acting after that, because he is just so good that it's always a learning experience to see him on screen," said Shahid.
The actor's upcoming film "Kaminay", directed by Vishal Bharadwaj, has attracted a lot of attention because of its unusual title and the efforts to keep Shahid's look under wraps. Shahid has said it is the "role of a lifetime" for him.
"I think Vishal is one of the best directors I have worked with. Honestly, he has offered me the role of a lifetime. I feel very lucky that he chose me to do this part. It's a very difficult and challenging part, however, very exciting at the same time and different from what I have done so far in my career," elucidated the actor.
The actor is also doing his second film with director Ken Ghosh.
In spite of being one of the best dancers in Hindi filmdom, Shahid was extremely nervous before learning a new dance form called Krumping for Ghosh's film "Yahoo".
He said: "I am a huge fan of Justin Timberlake. I remember the first day of rehearsals with Justin's choreographer Marty, suddenly I started getting sweaty hands and became nervous."
"I was feeling that it's very nice to see the videos of people and say that we too can dance like them. But when you actually get down to do that, it does make you feel a little nervous," said Shahid.
Priyanka
Chopra was crowned Miss India World and later Miss World in 2000.[4] In the same year, Lara Dutta and Diya Mirza, both from India, won the Miss Universe and Miss Asia Pacific crowns, in a rare triple. Filmography
Early Life
Priyanka Chopra was Born on 18 th July 1982 . She started her Education from La Martiniere Girls College in Lucknow as a resident student, A short stay at Maria Goretti College in Bareilly prepared her for further studies in the USA. Having completed class 10th from Boston USA she decided to become a software Engineer or a Criminal Psychologist.
This 5′ 8” girl likes Indian music and dance, flair for writing poetry and short stories, enjoys reading, especially biographies, and has worked for a lot of social welfare programmes. She aims for the stars after completing her education. She is a movie Buff and would love to join the galaxy if a good offer comes.
According to sources, Priyanka Chopra more than Kareena Kapoor is the natural choice to play Chamki since the role requires a trained dancer.
When contacted, Priyanka told IANS that she was open to the offer. "But I read the script ages ago. The whole project now has to be evaluated afresh. And who wouldn't want to work with Shyam Benegal?"
"Chamki" has been pending for a while. Earlier, the project was with Sanjay Gupta. Now, Big Pictures is producing the film.
In the past too, both Priyanka and Kareena were approached for "Chamki", but they opted out for various reasons.
"Kareena was excited to begin with. She was supremely charged by the role and what Benegal had done with her sister Karisma in 'Zubeidaa'. But then she opted out - as she often does from offbeat challenges like Deepa Mehta's 'Water' and Rituparno Ghosh's 'Raincoat' - pleading it was too early for her to attempt something so unconventional," said a source close to the project.
"Then came Priyanka who was quite kicked about the part, but she and the film's then producer Sanjay Gupta had a fallout after Priyanka said no to his 'Musafir'. The 'Chamki' role then went to Urmila Matondkar, who had monetary issues with the producer."
With the film changing producers, it is understood that money is no longer an issue.
While Priyanka is still interested in the project, Kareena's views were not yet known.
"Kareena continues to have reservations about non-mainstream cinema. Barring Pritish Nandy Communications' 'Chameli', she has never returned to non-mainstream cinema," said the source.
'Chamki', set in Rajasthan, is being re-designed as a big broad epic musical with choreography and lavish songs by Javed Akhtar and A.R. Rahman.
