Chanel’s Punk-Inspired Show Featured Garter Bags, Harnesses & Fishnets

Never underestimate the power of accessories. On Tuesday, Chanel presented its cruise ‘22 collection which, in addition to midriff-baring tweed sets and coat dresses, included its fair share of out-there accessories. In fact, it was said accessories, from handbag chain harnesses to quilted leather garter belt bags, that stood out most.

Against the backdrop of a former quarry in Provence, France, models walked to trance music by Sébastien Tellier, Angèle, and more while covered in punk-inspired accoutrements that included fishnet tights (Jill Biden is vindicated!), miniature neckties a la Avril Lavigne, heavy chain belts, and chokers. Though long known for its handbags and shoes, the French house, under the guidance of creative director Virginie Viard, used this collection to move away from its quintessential quilted flap bags and tweed slingbacks. Instead, Viard debuted a more daring and youthful approach to the house’s signatures.

Jewelry-wise, models switched off between cross pendants and extra-long, tangled chains reminiscent of the early ‘00s. Upper arms were decorated with cuffs, while wrists were adorned with chunky metal bangles. Arguably the most unexpected addition was the CC lip ring worn by many of the show’s models. According to Vogue, their addition was inspired by the late Stella Tennant’s “punk attitude” — the supermodel once refused to take out her septum piercing for a British Vogue shoot, according to W — as well as photographs of model Lola Nicon dressed as a “punk heroine,” taken at Gabrielle Chanel’s apartment in Paris prior to Tuesday’s show. “I wanted something quite rock,” Viard said in the show notes.

With Chanel’s stamp of approval, we’ll be considering a lip piercing of our own — or more likely, a clip-on version — in the near future. Leather harnesses, garter bags, and neckties, too.

Watch the show, below.

Emily In Paris Season 2 Photos Promise More Bucket Hats & Over-The-Top Prints

After what felt like forever, the filming for Emily In Paris Season 2 is underway. On Monday, photos from the set of the show’s forthcoming season were released, and just like its debut, this one’s already full of over-the-top style choices. For the hit series’ sophomore season, the titular Emily Cooper (Lily Collins) and her crew appear to have ditched the City of Lights for Villefranche-sur-Mer, a beach town near Nice in the French Riviera. Naturally, the change in locale called for a more beach-appropriate wardrobe.

Having left her Audrey Hepburn-inspired Christian Siriano dress (top photo) at home in Paris, Emily’s summer persona looks to be much more relaxed, with photos from the set showing the protagonist wearing high-waisted bikinis, oversized sunglasses, and silk scarves tied around her head. A pool scene sees Emily in a teal-blue bikini with a patterned robe and kitten heel sandals. While visiting the town’s city center, she wears a retro-esque scarf-sunglasses look with a baby blue mini dress, a Mod trench coat, and a box-shaped purse.

Emily’s affinity for bold prints and logos hasn’t completely vanished, though. Other photos from the set show the character wearing a black-and-white patterned bucket hat, a polka dot-and-floral tiered dress, and a graphic handbag — yes, all together. After all, it wouldn’t be Emily In Paris without some head-turning looks from the lead.

As we wait to see more of Emily’s Riviera wardrobe, see a sneak peek here.

Katie Holmes Wore A Knit Dress With Spring’s Biggest Shoe Trend

On Monday, Katie Holmes was spotted running (literally) through New York City while filming a scene for her upcoming movie, The Watergate Girl. While the outfit — an orange-and-black knit dress from Chloé — was likely selected by the film’s costume designer, it looked pulled from the actress’ closet, especially when it came to her footwear: a pair of Gucci loafers. Adding a trend-forward spin on the look, Holmes wore the shoes with a pair of crew socks, a popular style hack among the fashion crowd

The socks-with-loafers trend became popular (again) in fall of 2019, when Fashion Month’s street style stars began adorning their platform and lug-soled loafers with sporty and patterned socks, alike. Since, the look has become a fashion staple, popping up regularly on Instagram and TikTok. In fact, Holmes isn’t even the only celebrity to wear the socks-with-loafers duo this week: A day earlier, fellow actress and street style star Chloë Sevigny was also spotted wearing socks with loafers, styling hers with a royal blue sweat short set and a navy blue blazer.

Further solidifying her role on our spring style mood board, Holmes was seen wearing another favorite shoe style on Monday: UGG boots. Off-set, the actress appeared in a pair of the SoCal brand’s Mini Bailey Button II boots in chestnut, which she paired with a black, midi-length skirt and a flowy, floral blouse.

Suffice to say, after running on set in Gucci loafers all day — no matter how comfy the accompanying socks are — the only remedy is a pair of UGGs. Good thing they’re in style again.
