Beyoncé’s Grammys Look Proves That The Little Black Dress Never Goes Out Of Style

Beyoncé might not have performed on the 2021 Grammys stage, but make no mistake: She’s still the queen of the Grammys red carpet. After rumors that she might not appear at this year’s ceremony, Beyoncé showed up in a timeless black dress, which she wore with equally stunning earrings.

Between her angelic gold dress and headpiece, statement hats, and collection of ethereal gowns, Beyoncé has given us countless iconic fashion moments since she first attended the Grammys in 2000. This year’s look, although more classic, is no less memorable. Bey’s mini dress, a custom Schiaparelli creation designed by creative director Daniel Roseberry, features a plunging neckline, off-the-shoulder sleeves, and gathered leather. She completed her look with matching gloves and black heels, and long, gold earrings, also from Schiaparelli. And of course, because this is 2021, she also wore a black face mask while seated during the event. Jay-Z, who was also in attendance, matched his wife with a black suit and glasses.

Even though she didn’t perform, Beyoncé still hit the Grammy stage to collect an award for Best Rap Song with collaborator (and fellow Houston native) Megan Thee Stallion. She also won Best R&B Performance and Best Rap Performance and, along the way, made history. With 28 awards, Beyoncé is now officially the artist with the most Grammys, breaking Alison Krauss’ previous record of 27 wins. “This is so overwhelming,” she said in a speech. “I’ve been working my whole life since nine years old, and I can’t believe this happened. This is such a magical night.”

And Beyoncé isn’t the only member of the Knowles-Carter family who’s won big this weekend: her daughter, Blue Ivy, received her first Grammy for Best Music Video. Blue starred in the video for “Brown Skin Girl,” a track off of Lion King album The Gift. At nine years old, she is the second youngest artist to ever receive a Grammy.

Billie Eilish Matched Her Mask — & Bucket Hat — To Her Grammys Look

Billie Eilish might be clairvoyant. Last year, before anyone else was masking up, the “bad guy” singer wore a mesh Gucci face mask to the 2020 Grammys. At this year’s event, Eilish looked equal parts trendy and COVID-safe in a matching suit, mask, and bucket hat.

Eilish’s rose pink, jacquard two-piece, embroidered with overlapping black tigers, was custom made by Gucci. Her jacket and pants matched her fingerless gloves, mask, and bucket hat, but that isn’t all. On this year’s socially distant red carpet, she also showed off her detailed pink-and-gray manicure. (Eilish frequently coordinates her nails and her outfits: At last year’s Billboard Music Awards, she paired another embellished Gucci suit with intricate, pale green nail art.)

Finneas, Eilish’s brother and collaborator, also coordinated his outfit with hers, although his look was slightly more understated — a light pink suit with oversized black lapels and a brocade mask. Later, during a performance of “everything I wanted,” the siblings matched again in emerald green suits and gloves, also from Gucci. Eilish, who won an award this year for her James Bond theme “No Time to Die,” completed her look with a bejeweled headpiece.

Even though the bosses behind the Grammys took care to create a socially distant environment, celebrities, too, have found fashion-forward ways to stay safe. Chika matched a pastel mask to her sweatsuit on the red carpet, as did Best New Artist Megan Thee Stallion, who wore a mask in the same color as her vivid orange dress, among others in attendance.

Harry Styles Wore Not One, But Two Boas To The Grammys

The anticipation surrounding Harry Styles Grammys 2021 looks was high. Whether he’s wearing a dress for Vogue or accessorizing with a lot of Gucci (who else?), Styles always sets his own trends — and his Grammys ensembles were no different. As James Corden said several days ago: “I’ve seen a photo of what Harry is wearing. All I’m gonna say is: get ready.”

Dressed in head-to-toe leather, Styles kicked off the Grammys with a smooth, sultry, performance of “Watermelon Sugar.” He paired the custom Gucci cropped jacket and flared pants with leather boots from the brand, his signature rings… and a mint green faux fur boa. One article of clothing notably missing? A shirt. As Styles got to the song’s bridge, he shed the boa, revealing his tattooed chest under the jacket.

This wasn’t the only boa appearance from Styles on music’s biggest night of the year. While walking the red carpet, the performer opted for a yellow plaid blazer, brown pants, and another floor-grazing boa — this time in lilac.

Styles’ relationship with Gucci — specifically, creative director Alessandro Michele — goes back years: You might remember the floral suit he wore to the 2015 American Music Awards, back in the era of One Direction. “At the time, it was a very bold move to make,” his stylist Harry Lambert, who is also responsible for tonight’s looks, told Vogue. “It was very exciting to see everyone’s responses, but also how great he looked in it.” From there, Styles’ sartorial choices have only gotten bolder, and a lot more colorful, ranging from embroidered pants to paisley suits.

This is Styles’ first year as a Grammy nominee, and not only did he get the coveted opening performance slot, but he was up for three awards: Best Pop Solo Performance, Best Pop Vocal Album, and Best Music Video. No matter tonight’s outcome, the one award Styles will always win is Best Dressed. And Best Accessorized, too. “He’ll steal your heart and your dress,” host Trevor Noah said. “And he’ll look damn good doing it.”

The Best-Dressed Celebrities At The Grammys Took Risks On The Red Carpet

After spending the last two Sundays watching award show red carpets — first, the Golden Globes, followed by the Critics’ Choice Awards — you’d think we’d be ready for a break from the glitz and glamour of it all. But since we otherwise spend our time in sweatpants at home, having a sartorial escape in the form of red carpet fashion is especially welcome this year. The next stop on the marathon that is award season? The 2021 Grammy Awards. And with music’s biggest night, comes plenty of bold and daring style choices from the industry’s hottest talent. (We’re looking at you, Harry Styles.)

Airing on Sunday night, the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards are a long time coming — they were originally supposed to take place in January before being postponed to March due to the pandemic — which means that the A-listers in attendance have had plenty of time to plan out their red carpet looks. If we are to judge by past awards, standouts of the night will include Dua Lipa, Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, and Billie Eilish, all of whom have a reputation for going the extra mile style-wise. (We’ll never forget when Cardi B came dressed in a vintage Mugler oyster shell in 2019.) This year should be no different, whether or not their over-the-top looks only live on Instagram.

So order your takeout and put on your most elegant pajamas, because we’re in for a night of Grammys fashion like nothing we’ve ever seen — literally. Ahead, the best-dressed celebrities.
