New Balance x STAUD Is Back With Tenniscore Styles & Colorful Sneakers

New Balance and STAUD are upping this summer’s activewear — again!

Following the brands’ second collaborative drop last September, the pair is now taking inspiration from tennis and boxing for the new collection, designed for the “journey of personal fitness,” according to the drop’s press release.

The collection is a marriage of style and sports with a corset-laced white tennis dress, a tennis-ready skort, a satin boxer short with a matching jacket, and a Princess Diana-inspired bike short. Just like their last collaboration, there are also co-branded takes on New Balance classic shoe styles, including a New Balance 327 in blue and the 57/40 in green and yellow — all in unisex sizing.

“All of the pieces work together to create a collection versatile enough to take you from boxing to brunch or anywhere in between,” says STAUD co-founder Sarah Staudinger in a press release, adding that one of her favorite pieces is a new iteration of the brand’s signature beaded Tommy Bag.

The two It brands last partnered in September, when Staud updated the sportswear brand’s classic 327 sneakers with on-trend ‘90s-inspired details like the burgundy New Balance logo and a gum sole (even Katie Holmes was a fan!). This time, they are taking a jab at the season’s biggest trends: tenniscore and corsets, derived from TikTok and Bridgerton, respectively.

Retailing between $60 and $295, the soon-to-be sold-out (you know, just from empirical research!) collection will be available on June 24 on Staud.Clothing and NewBalance.com.

These Savage x Fenty’s Butt-Revealing Leggings Are Dividing The Internet

Chaos ensued on TikTok this week after a user named @fathermarge brought attention to a pair of leggings that offered little to no coverage in the butt area. “Things are getting a little crazy,” she said while using the green screen effect to showcase the lilac-colored leggings, which feature a large cut-out in the back, as well as lace-up detailing. Soon after, the post blew up, garnering 3.2 million likes and plenty of comments from perplexed users in the process.

While @fathermarge first stated that Fabletics made the head-scratching style, as viewers uncovered upon further research, the leggings are actually from Rihanna’s lingerie brand, Savage X Fenty. (Fathermarge has since removed the video from her page.)

Despite the video being deleted, many continued to stitch it on the platform, sharing their own reactions to the bare-all bottoms. “Can we normalize butt cleavage?” wrote @sweet_thang_ in a reaction video. “Butt cleave is sexy, butt cleave is amazing.” Not everyone agreed: “This is where I draw the line,” said @Paigent12. @Prettykittty04 wrote frankly, “Oh HELL no.”

According to the reviews on Savagex.com, the leggings are extremely popular with the brand’s shoppers. One reviewer named Jessica — who even bought a second pair after trying the style out — called them the “sexiest sleep pants ever.” A reviewer named Sasha called them “a must!” If you’re wondering where they are meant to be worn, according to the brand’s website, they are intended for a “cozy night in.” A cozy night in wearing buttless and crotchless leggings, that is.

Decide for yourself whether you’re for or against the butt-baring leggings by checking out the under-$50 style, below.

Our lives have been in a state of flux — and so has our sense of style. In partnership with Macy’s, we’ve tapped R29 editors to shed light on how their personal styles have evolved in the last year, aligning them with their own specific fashion identity that offers a glimpse into who they are and a reflection of the times we’re living in. Read more about the partnership and the other fashion identities here

When you’re holed up inside, confined to the four walls of your home for this long, it’s only a matter of time before you start reevaluating the things in it — including the clothes in your closet. And while decluttering years’ worth of garments is an impressive feat, streamlining your wardrobe and whittling it down to just the essentials is something else entirely. It takes an extraordinary amount of discipline — but Thatiana Diaz, senior editor of Refinery29’s Somos, was up to the task. As The Closet Curator, she began to rethink her approach to style, resolving to pare back on random items in favor of comfortable, neutral basics that she could wear over and over again (think: less chaotic evil, more lawful good). Ahead, read more about how she refined her look, what she’s learned, and the most surprising thing she discovered about herself.

My pre-pandemic style could be described as… “Hard to define. I would just put on whatever I pulled from the closet, which was fairly unpredictable, because I dressed depending on my day or my mood. If I had a meeting, I would throw on any blazer. If I were feeling chipper, I’d wear a bright color. I always had this misconception that comfort came at the expense of style, and now I’m seeing that’s not true.”

But when the pandemic hit… “I was able to take a deeper look at my closet. My life had always been go, go, go, so I never really took a step back to observe what I had hanging in there. As I started looking into not only “work from home” clothes, but also outfits for the future, I found that I was developing a personal style that was much more intentional.”

My personal style evolved… “Into one that’s curated and intentional but still comfortable and minimalistic. Instead of relying heavily on only one piece to ‘make a look,’ I’m now looking at the entire ‘fit, which is how I fell in love with monochromatism. You’ll most likely find me in neutrals and in comfortable fabrics and silhouettes that compliment my body figure. If I feel uncomfortable, I look uncomfortable, and that’s a no for me.”

What I learned: “I’m dressing more for me. It’s whatever I feel good in and not what’s ‘in style.’ I’m an easygoing person, and my style has always reflected that. I’m not too flashy in the things I do or the way I act, but I’m also not too laid-back. For me, it’s all about saying more with less.”

I’m The Closet Curator because… “I’m putting much more thought into what I have in my collection. I like to look at my personal style as “elevated everyday” with a capsule of basics that I can use as the foundation of my wardrobe and as the base of my outfits. I love the idea of looking at pieces that I can mix and match, that work seamlessly with one another, instead of shopping for random pieces and hoping it works.”

My essentials include: “A dress I can wear anywhere, a blazer, and a comfy monochrome set.”

The most surprising thing I discovered: “I’m actually not afraid of color or patterns. I was all about neutrals (I still am), but I’m not opposed to pulling on a pastel outfit, wearing a red lip, or adding an unexpected color, like orange, to the mix.

My favorite pandemic purchase was… “This beige monochrome set that I can wear to work from home, run errands, or grab lunch with my fiancé. It’s super comfortable and makes me feel good when paired with the right accessories.”

My 2021 personal style will… “Continue to become more intentional, even though there will still be days when I pull a random item from the closet. As I get even more comfortable with my style, who knows how I’ll surprise myself — but I’ll never sacrifice comfort, that’s all I know for sure.”

There’s this assumption that if you’re into wellness, then you’re like, into wellness — in the green juice-drinking, breathwork-practicing, crystal-collecting sense. But there’s no one-size-fits-all “look” for prioritizing your physical and mental well-being. You can live an active lifestyle without living in activewear. Case in point: The Active Aesthete, who proves practicing wellness can look like wearing spandex and wanting to dress up; it can look like whatever you want. It’s a reality that Carly Danner, R29’s associate social editor, discovered during lockdown as she reconciled her pre-pandemic style that “did the most” with her newfound desire to wear comfortable, practical outfits. Keep reading to find out how she’s redefining wellness on her own terms, and how she learned to merge her love of dressing up with her incredibly active lifestyle.

My pre-pandemic style could be described as… “All over the place. I used to buy random items on a whim, and they would go out of style a few months later, not fit my body right, or sit in my closet (with the tags still on) collecting dust. I also wore very impractical pieces — especially for living in New York City — like ridiculously high heels or too-short dresses.”

But when the pandemic hit… “My style became way more relaxed. Before COVID, I was that friend who did the most with her outfits, always had her hair done, and was never not in heels. Now, I find myself still putting in effort but with a chiller vibe. This time at home has also given me newfound appreciation for my body. In the past, I used to hide it (and thus, my insecurities) by wearing baggy shirts whenever I worked out, but I’ve begun to invest more time and energy into my physical and mental health journey. And it shows in the things I buy, too — instead of purchasing dresses I’d only wear once, I’m spending my money on skin care, mental health, workout classes, and outfits that I feel confident in.”

My personal style evolved… “When I would go on one of my many walks (all around the city and in Central Park) during the pandemic. These were my only ‘going out’ moments, so I dressed up for them, experimenting with colors, wearing something other than leggings, and reaching for tops I normally would have been too self-conscious to wear. At home, I’ll wear matching sweats or a workout set, and elevate the look with small gold hoops. I love how athleisure makes me feel, and so I try to incorporate those pieces outside of my workout whenever I can.”

What I learned: “I can have the best of both worlds: style and comfort. I still love flirty dresses and cute wrap tops, but I also lead a very active lifestyle (taking one to two workout classes every day, going on long walks, moving my body whenever I can). I don’t have to sacrifice one for the other.”

I’m The Active Aesthete because…“I value balance in every aspect of my life (physical and mental health, time spent by myself and with people, social media). I’m focused on overall wellness, and it’s reflected in how I present myself to the world: a style that I think of as a more enhanced version of athleisure. There’s purpose behind the pieces I wear — they’re comfortable, they make me feel confident, and they can get me through my days.”

My essentials include: “Sporty sandals for the summer and white sneakers with chunky white socks for the rest of the year. I also love a good baseball cap or bucket hat; I’ll find a way to incorporate it into a lot of my outfits.”

The most surprising thing I discovered: “I actually prefer a simpler style. I used to spend so much money on ‘trendy’ items, but now, I try to buy things that I know I will still reach for six months later.”

My favorite pandemic purchase was… “This one-shoulder sports bra that I saw on TikTok, and it’s become my go-to for pilates, walks, or for dining out. I wore it so much that I bought it in three more colors.”

My 2021 personal style will… “Continue to evolve into looks that are stylish but can still keep up with my busy lifestyle. I have cities to explore and adventures with friends lined up to make up for lost time. For the summer, I can’t wait to pair my stretchy cropped sports bra halters with jeans and sneakers. And for the fall, I have my uniform planned already: oversized sweatshirts, bike shorts, and, of course, sneakers.”
