Hollywood Reporter Names Law Roach 2021’s “Most Powerful” Stylist

The only person capable of outshining both Zendaya and Anya Taylor-Joy in the fashion department is the Image Architect behind their looks, Law Roach. And that’s exactly what he did on the cover of (and subsequent spread in) The Hollywood’s Reporter’s Most Powerful Stylists of 2021 edition, which came out on Wednesday.

The fashion stylist — who has also worked with Kerry Washington, Priyanka Chopra, Celine Dion, and more of fashion’s biggest names — was awarded “Top Stylist of the Year,” making him the first Black stylist to take home the title. (Law first made history with the publication in 2017, when he became the first Black stylist on the issue’s cover, though he was ranked 21st that year.) To mark the occasion, Roach decked himself out in gold Valentino Haute Couture for the shoot.

“The little Black boy who wore couture,” Law captioned a photo of his windswept Valentino look — sound familiar? — on Instagram, tagging the brand’s creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli. “Thank you Hollywood Reporter for letting me make history as the first Black stylist to be named Top Stylist of the Year.”

For the issue’s cover, Law changed out of the golden coat-heels combo and slipped into Louis Vuitton instead: He styled a white tuxedo jacket with a red, plaid kilt, pairing the ensemble with Christian Louboutin patent leather boots and Harry Winston jewelry. While posing for the shot, he enlisted Taylor-Joy in Dior and Zendaya in Valentino. (Casual.)

“Thank you to my Zendaya and Anya Taylor-Joy for making this cover so special,” he captioned a photo of it on his Instagram. “And thank you to all my clients for trusting me with something so important as your image!!!! I’m truly grateful.”

In 2021 alone, Law’s work went viral on more occasions than we can count. There was Zendaya’s September InStyle cover, which featured all Black designers, makeup artists, and hairstylists; the Euphoria star’s polka-dot Armani Privé gown from the Emmys, which she wore to become the youngest person to ever take home the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama; and, of course, her Cher-inspired dress from the Oscars. Also: TikTok phenomenon Addison Rae’s ’70s-style Glamour cover, as well as Taylor-Joy’s über-glamorous custom Dior gown from the Golden Globes.

Read the interview with Roach and see the rest of the list — which also includes stylists Zerina Akers, Wayman + Micah, and Jason Bolden, among others — here.

Tallulah Willis’ Engagement Ring Proves That This Trend Isn’t Going Out Of Style

On Tuesday, Tallulah Willis and Dillon Buss announced that they are getting hitched. Willis, the youngest daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore and the founder of fashion brand Wyllis, made the announcement via Instagram, captioning candid photos of the backyard engagement: “With absolute most certainty.”

“I can finally call you my fiancée,” Buss wrote on a post of his own. “Love you forever Buuski Lu, you are my best friend.” (Buuski is Willis’ childhood nickname.)

Then came a close-up photo of the stunning ring. For the occasion, Buss, a film director, sought out Brooklyn-based jeweler Karina Noel who custom made the design — an emerald-cut, solitaire diamond on a yellow gold band. “Making this work of art was a true honor,” Noel said on Instagram stories.

According to Kimberly Abruzzo, a gemologist at Rare Carat, the diamond appears to be approximately five to six carats. “Emerald cuts require high clarity, so you can be assured this is a very clean stone,” Abruzzo says. As for whether Willis approved of his pick, her caption on the video of the ring says it all: “HANDS STILL SHAKIN’ — MOMS SPAGHETTI — I’m FIANCÉNCHED.”

Willis joins a long list of celebrities with classic solitaire stones on their ring fingers, including Emily In Paris actress Lily Collins and model Jasmine Tookes. In fact, according to Shelley Brown, The Knot’s senior fashion and beauty editor, “solitaire settings with one — usually very large — diamond” are a big 2021 engagement ring trend. “The diamond shape may vary, but the settings tend to be very clean, without a lot of intricate detail,” she told Refinery29 in December.

Willis’ engagement ring is indeed minimal and understated. Or, at least, the band and timeless setting are. The massive diamond at the center, however, has maximum effect.

Hill House Home’s Bridal Collection Includes Nap Dresses & Padded Headbands

On Wednesday, the brand responsible for 2020’s most talked-about fashion item — the Nap dress — made its bridal debut with a 21-piece collection. And yes, it includes Nap dresses. For the Bridal Collection, Hill House Home combined existing favorites, like the Athena Nap Dress, the Belle Bow, and the Jewel Jammie pajama set (most recently worn by Emma’s Anya Taylor-Joy) with never-before-seen items, including customizable ring pillows and party kits — which include the Jewel Jammies, a silk pillowcase, and the Noor Headband — for the bride and their bridesmaids. Essentially, the brand thought of everything a bride could need, starting from the second they get engaged up until the wedding night.

From the something blue — we’d suggest the Noor headband for that — to the way you ask all your bridesmaids to be your bridesmaids — the “Be My Bridesmaid?” silk kit is your best bet — the Bridal Collection was designed to be there for all of the “little moments that surround the big day,” according to a press release. But who says it belongs only in the little moments? The Dolly Robe, which is made from silk and includes delicate feather details, could just as easily be the dress. In fact, given the rise in minimonies since the pandemic, something more casual almost feels more appropriate for a trip down the aisle than a big, poofy dress. Plus, you can rewear it.

The fact that the entire collection tops off at $335 is simply the icing on top of your four-tier wedding cake. Check out the campaign, shot by photographer Emma Craft, and shop the just-launched Bridal Collection, ahead.

At Refinery29, we’re here to help you navigate this overwhelming world of stuff. All of our market picks are independently selected and curated by the editorial team. If you buy something we link to on our site, Refinery29 may earn commission.
