8 Halloween Costumes That Spell Fashion With A Capital F

Halloween is only a few weeks away, which means it's time to get serious about the OTT costumes we are going to pull out for the occasion. And since fashion month is fresh in our minds — Paris Fashion Week ended only days ago — we decided that this year, we'd plan a full fashion-themed All Hallow's Eve — even if it will live only on Zoom. Think Miuccia Prada and Raf Simmons together at Prada, old Céline vs. new Celine (can we call it new still?), and Gucci's iconic head accessories. Also included in the mix are, of course, Rihanna's second Savage x Fenty show with Amazon Prime Video, which premiered last week, and #GanniGirls.

While spending $11,000 on a 3D-printed head like Jared Leto did for the Met Gala would be overkill, we can suggest some easier-to-manage costume ideas that still spell Fashion with a capital F.

Ahead, check out 8 fashion-forward Halloween costumes that are sure to get you that best-dressed award at every soiree come October 31st.

At Refinery29, we’re here to help you navigate this overwhelming world of stuff. All of our market picks are independently selected and curated by the editorial team. If you buy something we link to on our site, Refinery29 may earn commission.

Savage X Fenty Vol. 2 Show

Last week, Rihanna, along with some of her closest pals, including Paloma Elsesser, Lizzo, Normani, Bella Hadid, and Willow Smith, returned to the stage for the second annual Savage x Fenty runway show, which was released in over 200 countries via Amazon Prime Video. For the occasion, each of the many celebrity guests got dressed up in Savage x Fenty lingerie — some in bright colors, others in all black. And now, since every piece from the show is being sold on Amazon Prime and Savagex.com, you can do the same... on Halloween. Miuccia Prada & Raf Simons, Co-Creative Directors At Prada

When the news broke in February that Raf Simons would be joining Miuccia Prada as her co-creative director at Prada, the fashion world had high hopes — and the duo didn't disappoint. At Milan Fashion Week, during their first runway show as partners, Prada and Simons put forth the best qualities of their individual aesthetics, together forming an unstoppable fashion empire. So, naturally, we want to honor their hard work this Halloween. To recreate the two designers, as they told the world in a Q&A following the show, wear a white, pleated skirt with a blue sweater for Miuccia and black trousers and a shirt (yes, that's all he said) for Raf. Easy enough. Photo: Sean Zanni/Getty Images.

New Celine vs. Old Céline

No fashion Halloween round-up would be complete without an old Céline vs. new Celine couple costume. One of the most divisive fashion switch-ups in history, the Phoebe-to-Hedi transition even managed to garner its own Instagram account, with 343K Philo stans following along.
After you and your fashion BFF stop fighting over who gets to be old Céline, one of you is going to have to face reality and get Hedi'd. Throw on a leather vest, a micro mini dress, and some grunge moto boots, and you've got the look down. If you want to take it up a notch, you can add a '50s-era headpiece and dark sunglasses for effect.

To embody the magic of old Céline this Halloween, you want to look effortlessly cool, like you threw these oversized, muted pieces together in 30 seconds or less despite the fact that you've been trying on different combinations for the last two weeks.

Jared Leto at the Met Gala (& More Severed Heads)

Gucci's fall '18 runway show presented a handful of strange objects including, but not limited to, dragons, snakes, and chameleons. But of all the accessories carried throughout the show, the models carrying life-like replicas of their own heads were by far the most memorable of the night.

Following the show, Gucci brand ambassador Jared Leto recreated the cloning process by having a 3D printed replica of his own head crafted for the 2019 Met Gala red carpet... a task that apparently cost him around $11,000 (casual). But since you likely don't want to spend $10k+ on a virtual Halloween costume this year, we instead are suggesting you simply by a white face mask, tape a printed picture of your face to it, and attach it to a ball of some sort. And for extra credit, throw on a wig!

Naomi Campbell & Kate Moss Eating Ramen

There's no model/BFF duo more synonymous with fashion than Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell. So, of course, we're dying to spend a night in their shoes.

To nail their looks, we suggest going full '90s model off duty, a.k.a. baggy jeans, a simple camisole, and, naturally, a to-go cup of ramen and a Coca Cola can.

#GanniGirl

There's no combo more tied to Scandinavian style than a poofy, pastel dress and a pair of chunky sneakers. And while the number of brands coming out of Denmark continues to rise, none can quite compete with cult-classic label Ganni and their infamous #GanniGirls.

Viktor & Rolf Memes

"Go F*ck Yourself", "Sorry I'm Late I Didn't Want To Come", "NO" — these are just a few of the messages that avant-garde brand Viktor & Rolf sent down their spring '19 haute couture runway in Paris last year. A year later, on the highly debated Netflix show Emily In Paris, similar dresses appeared, this time with phrases like "I am tacky" and "Basic" printed on them. To turn the viral gowns (and their 2020 remake) into Halloween costume infamy, grab any princess-like gown in your closet (or on the shelves of Spirit Halloween) and cut 'n' paste your sassy phrase of choice.

The J.Lo Jungle Dress

It's been 20 years since J.Lo made history on the Grammy's red carpet donning a green Versace dress that's since become iconic. In honor of the anniversary of the "Jungle Dress", the Grammy-winning artist surprised MFW show-goers by modeling the dress at Versace's spring '20 show last year, thus sparking many to seek out the dress (or one like it) for their Halloween costumes. After all, who doesn't want to be J.Lo for a night?
