Rihanna Outdid Herself (Again) With Fenty’s 1st Drop Of The Decade
Release 2-20, as she’s calling it, is all about freedom — whether that be freedom of expression or creativity. With that in mind, the designer chose to create a collection that, unlike her more formal first drop, wasn’t constrained to any one dress code. Instead, she designed a casual selection of pieces that are wearable for any and all occasions.
Of course, the pieces that Fenty has become known for (XL and XS sunglasses, structured silhouettes, corsets, and more) will still be making an appearance. But this time around, expect to also find Rihanna’s take on a utility jumpsuit, designed in a luxury ribbed fabric; a brand new pair of hiking boots which will be known from now on as Hitch Hikers Boots; and a burnt-orange windbreaker that combines the functionality of velcro with the opulence of satin.
Like the 5-19 drop, this one will house pieces that you can mix and match, as well as style in a number of different ways depending on how you feel on any given day. Similar to her adjustable slip dress from previous seasons, Release 2-20 will include a new silhouette made of a playful, crumpled fabric that allows for the length to be worn short (for a night out) or longer (for the office). Suffice to say, Riri’s checking off all our boxes.
As of this morning, the entire Release 2-20 drop is available on Fenty.com, with exclusive pieces being sold at Manhattan’s iconic department store Bergdorf Goodman. At Bergdorfs, shoppers can experience the collection through Rihanna’s eyes in an electric blue pop-up space co-designed by the genius behind Lil Nax X’s Grammys set Jed Skrzypczak and Rihanna’s right-hand-man Jahleel Weaver.

Your Valentine's Day Look Just Got So Much Better
As The Olympics Approaches, Nike Launches “Rawthentic Modernity” Aesthetic
With the 2020 Tokyo Olympics only five months away, Nike has announced its plans to make this year’s games the most sustainable ever. As reported by British Vogue, John Hoke, Nike’s Chief Design Officer, said, “Every four years, the eyes and the attention of the world stops and focuses on sports – which is fantastic for us. Sports show what’s possible, and [the Olympics] are a moment for us to telegraph our intentions as a company.” The big-name brand is using its sweeping influence and this critical moment to shine a light on the necessity for ethical innovation in the design space.
“We’ve always been a company that wants to take a position on issues that matter – but there’s clearly a vibration, a zeitgeist shift that is happening,” Hoke said, alluding to current socio-political conversations in the fashion industry that have been growing louder. “We don’t want to be passive; we want to lead the conversation… And it’s not a time to be timid – it’s a time to be bold, to dream big and to take action.”
With this, the company is launching a new design movement called “space hippy,” according to British Vogue, which will take a zero-carbon approach by making shoes from 100% recycled yarn uppers and using foam scraps from factory floors to make cushioning. The outlet reports that the amalgam plastic soles will be left undyed to reduce the use of materials and push a recycled aesthetic the brand is calling “rawthentic modernity.”

“Space hippy is the pinnacle expression of the palette of our sustainable materials – but they’re scalable across the whole company,” expresses Noah Murphy-Reinhertz, Nike’s Sustainability Design Lead. “It’s a wild manifestation, but one that creates tools that everyone can use.”
According to British Vogue, 60% of Nike’s carbon footprint is generated by raw materials. Under this new shift, the outlet reports that the company will take cues from the Japanese “who are creating their gold, silver and bronze Olympic medals out of nearly 80,000 tons of recycled electronics (including 6.21 million mobile phones).” Moreover, podium uniforms will be made from recycled polyester and nylon with swooshes created by upcycling consumer and industrial materials; tracksuits will be produced using 60% recycled cotton; and Nike Air shoe soles will be produced in 100% renewable energy factories using scraps.
“We are using all the recycled materials that are available to us,” says Seana Hannah, Vice President of Nike Sustainable Innovation. “And throughout the manufacturing process, we’re using renewable energy, or the lowest energy methods possible.” The company’s push for sustainable materials is also a major effort to support its athletes. “We’re hearing from our athletes that climate change is changing how they train, where they train and when they train,” says Hannah. With temperatures rising and the air quality worsening, Nike’s efforts are not laudatory — they’re absolutely necessary.
The Olympics are a major cultural moment watched by people across the globe, so we’re glad to see Nike evolving its business practices and using its massive resources to champion the necessity for change for all to see.

Tanya Taylor Replaced NYFW With A Comedy Series
This Valentine’s Day, Buy Yourself A Vegan Coat To Support Animals
Apparis, the faux-fur vegan coat company that’s beloved by street style stars and animal rights activists alike, has announced a new partnership with PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) for Valentine’s Day. On February 14, the brand will be donating 100% of proceeds from its website directly to the organization, which is pretty major. Launching today, the campaign features a model wearing the brand’s classic Manon coat in Rouge alongside two adorable rescue dogs in faux fur scarves.
With a shared passion for the ethical treatment of animals, the collaboration was a match made in heaven. ”Combining these two things to celebrate the day of love was a no-brainer. We selected the Manon style in Rouge (the color of love) as it’s the perfect cruelty-free coat to make a bold V-Day statement. We’re obsessed with all furry animals — especially dogs. Their personalities are bold and vibrant, and their coats are warm and cuddly, exactly like our beyond-plush faux furs,” Apparis co-founders Amélie Brick and Lauren Nouchi said in a press release.
Brick and Nouchi, who initially met as colleagues at Louis Vuitton, launched their brand after years of witnessing unethical manufacturing practices during their careers in luxury fashion. Wanting to make a positive change, they decided to make a vegan fashion brand with an accessible price point.
“This Valentine’s Day, Apparis is showing a little extra love to animals by generously supporting PETA’s work,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “While some cold-hearted designers are still killing rabbits and coyotes for collars and cuffs, Apparis’ beautiful faux-fur coats are pushing the vegan fashion revolution forward.” According to the fashion brand, in 2019 there were 20 percent fewer animals who were exploited for their fur, and naturally, their mission seems perfectly aligned with PETA’s.
Get your coins ready for Valentine’s Day and treat yourself to a coat that’s not only stylish and cruelty-free but also saves animals.

Tanya Taylor Opts Out Of NYFW; Releases 5-Part Comedy Series Instead
The Canadian designer launched her label in 2012, and by her sophomore collection, was already pushing the boundaries by presenting 22 looks in the Agnes Gund Garden Lobby of Manhattan’s Museum of Modern Art. Her 2015 Resort collection didn’t involve a runway at all; instead, the brand teamed up with mixed-media artist Kalen Hollomon to place models all across Manhattan, from the inside of subway cars to outside of bodegas. And in recent years, for both her Spring and Fall 2019 presentations, Taylor chose to hold women’s power luncheons rather than traditional shows, a move that feels both relevant and sustainable compared to her competitors who continue to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on 10-minute-long productions.
For the first time since she launched her brand, Tanya Taylor will be stepping away from the physical realm of NYFW to instead bring the industry into the digital age with a five-part comedy series starring none other than Jane Krakowski, Gillian Jacobs, Sasheer Zamata, Zosia Mamet, and Michelle Buteau.
“When I think about the moments that I’m most proud of over the past eight years, it’s the moments where we have brought people together and made a positive impact on someone’s day,” Taylor says. “So, we turned our focus for NYFW to what matters most to us, which is spreading joy and lifting people up. We knew we wanted to make people laugh, and what better way to do that than to work with brilliant and funny women.”
The series, titled “FASHUN WEEK,” was a response to Taylor noticing that her loyal customers weren’t getting the chance to experience her Fashion Week presentations — runway show or otherwise. To see what they had to say, the team took to Instagram, posing the question: “What do you think is funny about fashion/fashion week?” to their feed. “The answers were hilarious and true and pure gold for comedy skits,” the press release states.
To compile the 5-piece team to act out the skits, Taylor hired Jill Demling, British Vogue’s Entertainment Director at Large, while Samantha Shanker from Tina Fey’s company Little Stranger was brought in to write the scripts. The result? A hilarious compilation that, for anyone who’s participated in Fashion Week in the past, is surprisingly accurate. We especially like the return of first season Shoshanna (but dressed to the nines in Tanya Taylor rather than Zosia Mamet’s character’s ubiquitous tracksuits). Oh, and the not so subtle, “What am I not paying you for?” question posed by Michelle Buteau during her #FASHUNFITTING.
As for the collection itself, prepare for all of your favorite Tanya Taylor specialties, from vibrant hues and bold patterns to voluminous ruffles and feminine details — all of which will be modeled by the five comedians featured in her NYFW #FASHUNWEEK skits for the Fall 2020 lookbook. See it all right here by clicking through the slideshow ahead.
