Jill Biden’s Latest Look Sends A Message Of Love

Jill Biden is sending love with her latest look. On Thursday, the First Lady met with U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson while wearing a black jacket with the word “Love” emblazoned with crystals on the back.

Following Biden wearing the look, people online were quick to bring up Melania Trump’s “I Really Don’t Care, Do You?” parka from Zara, which she wore to visit migrant children inside a detention center in 2018. Following the backlash to the look, Melania’s spokeswoman at the time, Stephanie Grisham, argued that “it was just a jacket.” Later, Donald Trump contradicted the statement, saying that the parka was a response to the “fake news media.”

While many speculated that Biden’s Zadig & Voltaire blazer was a dig at Melania, FLOTUS told the press that the look was intended to provide a “sense of hope after this year of the pandemic.”

“I think we are bringing love from America. We are trying to bring unity across the globe,” she told the reporters in attendance.

During her time as the First Lady, Biden made plenty of fashion statements that included a Valentino bag with her dogs Champ’s and Major’s faces on it, a pair of fishnets that outraged conservatives, and over-the-knee “vote” boots.

Biden has also focused on celebrating American fashion designers. On Inauguration day, FLOTUS wore a sparkly blue coat and dress by up-and-coming designer Markarian and, later, a white Gabriela Hearst dress with flowers from all states and territories embroidered on the chest.

Second Wind Launched A Travel Pack Featuring The Disposable Version Of Its Cult Face Mask

As mask mandates and coronavirus restrictions continue to ease, Second Wind is launching a new product, a Jet Set Travel Pack, made for on-the-go travelers looking to be safe while venturing out post-vaccination.

Retailing for $60, the bundle includes a three-pack of disposable masks — made from five-layer KN95 material — in the brand’s signature oat, sand, and black colors, as well as a TSA-friendly toiletry bag, a 7mm silver mask chain, and a pocket-size sanitizer created in collaboration with Noshinku. Ten percent of proceeds from the bundle will go to Give India, the country’s largest donation platform that has raised over $60 million toward COVID-relief efforts.

“My mission has always been to inspire people to feel strong and confident during this new normal,” Karen Perez told Refinery29 via email. “I launched Second Wind during a time of uncertainty, so everyone can feel comfortable even when the world doesn’t.”

Perez is no stranger to adapting to changing times. Last year, when the pandemic hit, she turned from fashion styling to design with her popular face mask line Second Wind, a collection of stylish cloth masks famous for its chain mask accessories and coveted by the likes of Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Jennifer Lopez.

Over the past year, Perez’s Second Wind has grown a cult following on Instagram, where the cloth face masks went viral last summer, thanks to their stylish chain and custom fit. Since then, the New Jersey-born Latina designer has also launched hats and kid-friendly face masks.

TikTok’s Favorite Bikini Brand Just Launched A Y2K Shoe Line

You have the bikinis, the one-pieces, and the coverups from Frankies Bikinis — now you can have their sandals, too. On Thursday, the TikTok-favorite swimwear brand that is based in Los Angeles, released its first-ever collection of footwear, which includes Y2K styles like platform flip-flops, pillow sandals, heeled thong sandals, and more.

The collection includes four styles — the Juna Terry Slides, the Zori Sandal, the Surf Fin Heel, and the LA Girl Platform — which start at $65 for the pillowy pool slides and top at $265 for the shark-inspired wedge sandals. Each of the styles is available in a variety of pastel shades, ranging from lilac and aqua to white, and is meant to be worn both at the beach or pool (three of the new styles come in water-absorbent terry cloth) and away from it.

As expected, fans of the brand are already flocking to get their hands on pairs of their own. For proof, check out their page on the Gen Z platform where users are showing their purchase intentions in the comment section. “OMG SO EXCITED,” wrote Rebekah. Meanwhile, Instagram influencer Madeleine Rose commented, “PERIOD.” Basically, you’re about to see as many of the brand’s shoe styles as its bikinis all over your #fyp this summer.

Gossip Girl’s reboot is almost here, and so are the memorable fashion moments. Though one may think it’s hard to match Eric Daman’s costumes on the original TV show, that ran from 2007 to 2012, the HBO Max show is already making fashion waves.

On Thursday, the platform released a new trailer for the show, premiering on July 8, complete with a staged Christopher John Rogers fashion show. In the teaser, viewers can see Upper East Sider Julien Calloway (played by Jordan Alexander), a popular influencer and Constance Billard attendee, close a CJR fashion show, dressed in a black-and-white look from Christopher John Rogers’ spring 2021 collection (jump to 1:27 to see). The trailer also shows Calloway wearing a black, corseted evening gown by the designer (0:57), as well as models wearing other pieces from the same collection (0:39). Refinery29 reached out to Christopher John Rogers, who had no comment about the looks featured in the trailer.

Ever since Christopher John Rogers launched his namesake brand in 2016, the CFDA Fashion Award winner has injected an otherworldly vibe into the fashion world with oversized shapes, impossibly vibrant colors, and standout prints, coveted by Rihanna, Rosalía, Zendaya, and Tracee Ellis Ross. In 2021, Vice President Kamala Harris donned a purple coat from the designer to be sworn in on Inauguration Day in January. The designer also launched a collaboration collection with Target this year.

Since the pandemic took hold, the brand hasn’t been able to return to the NYFW runway, instead, showcasing fall and spring 2021 digitally. As such, it’s exciting to see the looks from the spring 2021 collection — including a slew of mismatched zebra and checkered black-and-white printed garments, neon dresses, balloon-shaped skirts, and bold monochrome suits — coming to life on the runway in the series.

This move to spotlight CJR is a departure from the big-name designers showcased on the original TV show. And, although the episodes were filled with socialites, designers, and celebrities, the show’s runway moments were few and far between and often focused on fictional designers. Take, for example, Eleanor Waldorf’s designs, which were created by ghost designer Abigail Lorick, and Jenny Humphrey’s (short-lived) fashion line.

The show’s creators have signaled that the reboot is committed to bringing diversity into the Upper East Side, and choosing to highlight the work of the Baton Rouge-born Black designer is certainly on the right track. Watch the runway show in Episode 1 when the series premieres next month.
