Max Mara’s Latest Campaign Was Inspired By Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s James Bond
James Bond has a very specific uniform: Classic tux, Vesper martini, Aston Martin DB5. But 58 years and 26 movies later, Italian fashion brand Max Mara was inspired to give the British franchise an update — and it couldn’t have come at a better time.
For the film’s latest installment, recent Golden Globe winner Phoebe Waller-Bridge was brought in to add some of the dark, witty humor that put her and her work (which includes Fleabag and Killing Eve season one) on the map. While imagining how Waller-Bridge would tackle the screenplay (notably, only one other woman has ever written a Bond movie, and that was in 1962), Max Mara designer Ian Griffiths got inspired to build his Spring Summer 2020 collection around what he believed she would do with the classic flick.
“She [Waller-Bridge] has promised to give women a more prominent role. So I thought, ‘Why not do a wardrobe for a film that hasn’t been made?’” Griffiths said to WWD. He also said that in his version of the film, Bond goes up against a heroine who “does everything Bond does but without using a gun and without degrading other people.”
And there’s no foursome better equipped to personify this idea than real-life powerhouses Gigi Hadid, Irina Shayk, Joan Smalls, and Adriana Lima.
For Max Mara’s Spring Summer 2020 campaign, Griffiths gathered the foursome in front of renowned fashion photographer Steven Meisel, who captured the strength of both the collection itself and its feminine message on film. Photos range from intense shots of all four wearing monochromatic suiting in gray and black to more playful images of each model donning their own shade of pastel.
With No Time To Die pushed until April, we’re crossing our fingers that Max Mara’s Spring 2020 collection will make an exciting on-screen appearance when the film premieres later this year.

We Want Everything The Cast Of Euphoria Wore After The Golden Globes
If you’ve been anxiously awaiting HBO’s drama Euphoria to return, we have some news that might pique your interest. On Sunday, Euphoria castmates Hunter Schafer, Maude Apatow, Barbie Ferreira, and Sydney Sweeney partied together post-Golden Globes at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. And true to form, everyone looked very glamorous, and deeply cool.
Schafer wore a Rick Owens dress, while Ferreira posed next to her castmates in a Madiyah Al Sharqi dress and Christian Louboutin shoes. Apatow styled her Miu Miu gown with Harry Kotlar studs and a Le Vian ring. Finally, Sweeney looked ethereal in a Paolo Sebastian dress, Yessayan earrings, and rings by Yvan Tufenkjian and Le Vian. Notably absent from the reunion was Zendaya, who may have been snubbed; Euphoria didn’t receive any nominations despite all the acclaim for both the show and Zendaya’s performance.

Wardrobing is a big part of Euphoria’s success, and costume designer Heidi Biven said at the end of Euphoria’s season finale in August that she loves working with the cast, because it’s collaborative. Biven specifically named Schafer, Ferreira, and Alexa Demie as the ones who reach out to her directly. “They would throw ideas my way of brands that they thought were right for their character or silhouettes they wanted to explore. I love a collaboration — that’s why I love this job,” she said.
And though we’ve come to love each of their characters’ individual style on the show, thanks to Bivens, it’s clear the actors don’t do too bad on their own, either.

Our Favorite Trend From The Golden Globes Was Sustainability
Nowadays, award shows are about a lot more than celebrities getting dressed up and winning statues. Instead, these influential events are used as opportunities to bring up bigger issues, whether it be through the speeches told or the outfits worn. And last night’s Golden Globes was no different. In light of the devastating wildfires that are currently blazing in Australia, a number of attendees, including Cate Blanchett, Ellen DeGeneres, and Pierce Brosnan, used their time on stage to ask their friends and colleagues — and the millions of viewers watching on TV — to donate whatever money they could to the cause. Others used the opportunity to make an even bigger statement — and a fashion one, at that.
During the 2018 Golden Globes, which was the first major gathering of Hollywood players after the Harvey Weinstein scandal, female attendees dressed in black as a way to protest the harassment that women in the TV and film industries face on a regular basis from powerful men that, until Weinstein, hadn’t been held accountable for their actions. This act of dissent garnered international attention and played a key role in the #METOO movement. Now, two years later, 2020 Golden Globes fashion is once again being used to shine a light on an important cause.
Last night, a number of celebrities chose to use their Golden Globes looks as political statements by recycling their dresses and suits in the name of sustainability. During a press conference after the award ceremony, Golden Globe winner Phoebe Waller-Bridge announced that she would use her custom black and gold suit as a means to raise money for Australia. “We’ve hatched an amazing plan with Ralph & Russo who are the Australian designers that created this incredible couture suit,” Waller-Bridge said. “We’re going to auction it and the money that is raised from it will go towards relief in Australia. It’s a beautiful idea from the team, so I’m really excited to be a part of that.”
This man is a winner… wearing custom Stella because he chooses to make choices for the future of the planet. He has also chosen to wear this same Tux for the entire award season to reduce waste. I am proud to join forces with you… x Stella#JoaquinPhoenix #GoldenGlobes pic.twitter.com/Ymbkl78ecN

Another Golden Globe winner, Joaquin Phoenix, put focus on sustainability at the event. During his acceptance speech for his role in Joker, the actor thanked the Hollywood Foreign Press for “recognizing and acknowledging the link between animal agriculture and climate change.” He continued, “It’s a very bold move making tonight plant-based, but it really sends a powerful message.” He went on to call out some of the actors and actresses who mentioned Australia’s fires before him by asking them to go beyond just “well wishes” and join him in “making changes and sacrifices in our own lives” — private jets to and from Palm Springs included. As a first step, the actor has joined forces with green fashion designer Stella McCartney to design one custom tux that he will go on to wear for the entirety of award season in an effort to reduce waste.

Where’d You Go Bernadette actress Troian Bellisario demonstrated that every look can be recycled — even your wedding dress. Bellisario dressed down her boho Cortana Bridal skirt in order to wear it to a Golden Globes after-party alongside husband Patrick J. Adams, this time with a silk tank top rather than the sheer, long-sleeved top she wore to tie the knot.
With any luck, the political statements made at last night’s Golden Globes will act as a catalyst for change throughout the remainder of award season — and beyond.

Beyoncé Was Fashionably Late To The Golden Globes In Custom Schiaparelli
On Sunday, Beyoncé and Jay Z skipped the 77th annual Golden Globes Awards red carpet, arriving inside the Beverly Hilton just after the show began. Because she didn’t walk the carpet, viewers at home didn’t get a chance to appreciate the beauty that is Beyoncé in her couture (we could only see the voluminous statement sleeves from her waist up) — until now. On Monday, Beyoncé uploaded her Golden Globes gown to her Instagram in a series of photos.
Beyoncé’s stylist, Zerina Akers, also shared the look to her Instagram, noting that Queen Bey is wearing custom Schiaparelli. Schiaparelli’s creative director Daniel Roseberry posted the photos of Beyoncé to his own account, and captioned the photos: “Queen. Mother. Living Legend. Thank you, Beyonce.” Beyoncé completed the look with Lorraine Schwartz earrings and opera-length sheer gloves. Jay Z wore a Tom Ford tuxedo for the occasion.

Beyoncé isn’t a stranger to the Globes, despite the low-key entrance. On Sunday, she was nominated for Best Original Song – Motion Picture for The Lion King‘s “Spirit.” Unfortunately, she didn’t win (the honor went to Rocketman’s “I’m Gonna Love Me Again” instead). Beyoncé was previously nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actress for her role in the 2006 remake of Dreamgirls, and received two Best Original Song nominations, one for “Listen” from Dreamgirls and another for “Once In a Lifetime” from Cadillac Records.
Leave it to Beyoncé to arrive fashionably late but completely on-trend.

Gwyneth Paltrow Wore A Sheer Fendi Dress To The Golden Globes
Last night, on the Golden Globes red carpet, Gwyneth Paltrow told Ryan Seacrest she had “kind-of retired from acting” because she “has this company that I do.” She casually shared the info while wearing a sheer Fendi dress with a tiered skirt and puffy sleeves. Underneath, The Politician star wore a built-in bralette and matching high-cut briefs from the fashion house’s pre-fall 2020 collection.
She completed her Golden Globes look with Christian Louboutin pumps, plus two Bulgari necklaces worn under the dress.
When it comes to award shows, celebrities often play it a little too safe, working with stylists who can sometimes give all of their clients a similar look. Our favorites on Sunday night, Paltrow and her sheer Fendi gown included, were the people who made daring choices.
Gwyneth Paltrow describing her life and GOOP as “I’ve kind of retired from acting because I have this company that I do,” while dressed in brown sheer bed skirt couture over a statement necklace is what I want from a movie star.

But it was actor Emerson Collins who summed up Paltrow’s fashion contribution the best, writing: “Gwyneth Paltrow describing her life and Goop as “I’ve kind-of retired from acting because I have this company that I do,” while dressed in brown sheer bed skirt couture over a statement necklace is what I want from a movie star.”
Paltrow’s look is very glamorous in all the right ways. Apparently, Goop dreams are made of gowns like these.
