Michael Kors’ 40th Anniversary Fashion Show Featured Naomi Campbell, Ashley Graham & More
If you have missed Broadway, you’re not alone. On Tuesday, New York fashion mainstay Michael Kors celebrated his namesake brand’s 40th anniversary with an ode-to-Broadway runway show that took place — albeit last week as the show was pre-recorded — in the heart of New York’s theatre district. For the occasion, Kors tapped Broadway’s finest including Billy Porter, Alan Cumming, Bette Midler, Jane Krakowski, Judith Light, and more stage legends for a short film that preluded the show, and supermodels Naomi Campbell, Ashley Graham, Helena Christensen, Bella Hadid, Alek Wek, and more runway icons for the main event. (NBD.)
To the sound of Rufus Wainwright’s rendition of “New York State of Mind” and “There’s No Business Like Show Business,” the models crossed 45th Street, passing by Broadway staples like Sardi’s Restaurant and the Shubert Theatre while modeling Kors’ fall ‘21 collection. According to the press release, the 63-piece collection was inspired by the re-opening of the world: “I was really thinking about the joy in getting dressed up and stepping out for a night on the town,” Kors said. “This collection is all about making every moment a special occasion and feeling confident, glamorous, and upbeat.”
Standouts include reissued looks from collections past, including a monochrome red look (worn by Hadid) from Kors’ fall ‘91 show and a white, belted dress (modeled by Wek) first spotted on Cindy Crawford on the fall ‘92 runway. The 16 reissued looks were even fitted with a QR code that unlocks runway clips from their heydays and other stories about the pieces. Graham and Paloma Elsesser both wore cutout, sequin dresses, while Christensen came out of retirement to model a silver gown made from tiny mirrors. The kicker? Campbell in a black, floor-length, sequin gown, topped with a wool coat strewn over her shoulders. Suffice to say, after 40 years, Kors has learned what it takes to make a show that deserves a standing ovation.
Until Broadway is back up and running — according to NPR, it’s expected to return by September 2021 — bask in Kors’ ode to it, below.

The Gucci x Balenciaga Rumors Are True (Kind Of)
Rihanna’s Latest Look Proves You Can Wear Lingerie Outside
As if to calm our Monday blues, Rihanna stepped out for dinner at Wally’s in Beverly Hills on Monday night wearing yet another top-tier ‘fit, this time, designed by her own hand. For the occasion, she crafted a look using an item from Savage x Fenty, the fashion and beauty mogul’s line of size-inclusive lingerie, pairing a see-through, mesh-and-lace camisole with a vintage, silk robe by Hermès and matching track pants by Celine (casual). To brighten up the all-black look, she added a pair of varsity purple-colored Nike Dunk Highs and slime green sunglasses from Gucci (even more casual). Essentially, she wore pajamas — albeit the fanciest pajamas we’ve ever seen! — out to dinner, and in doing so, made us want to do the same.
This is hardly the first time Rihanna’s worn her finest bedtime duds outside of the bedroom. In 2015, she wore a lace bra with a robe, pajama pants, and Cher Horowitz-esque feathered heels while out in New York City. Two years later, for the Met Gala after-party, she ditched her floral Comme des Garçons gown for a feather-trimmed pajama shirt-turned-dress by Prada, which she paired with (again) Gucci sunglasses and (again) feathered heels. From slips and kimonos to bodysuits, she’s since worn every item typically found in our lingerie drawers to go out, on red carpets, and at Fenty launch events, alike. But, aside from an occasional ad campaign for the brand, we rarely get to see Rihanna wearing Savage x Fenty on the streets. When we do, we take notice.
Of course, we’ve been taking notice of the singer-designer a lot lately. Over the last month, she’s broken out her Sunday best on multiple occasions, be it a leather-mesh combo for her mother’s birthday party in New York or heeled flip-flops with a tracksuit and trucker hat in Los Angeles. But Fenty in Fenty, well, that takes the cake.

Heeled Flip-Flops Are Making A Comeback
Welcome To Midriff Season
We’ve been putting it off and putting it off — holding onto our safety sweatsuits for dear life. But with spring’s arrival, the time for stepping out of our sartorial security blanket and into something a little more revealing has come. This season, it’s all about showing skin, with short shorts and Tarzan bikinis gaining traction now that temperatures (and the number of people getting vaccinated) are rising. But the one bare-all trend that has us most excited to give up our pandemic sweats are skimpy, midriff-baring tops and dresses that were last seen on the runways of yesteryear. (Belly button ring not included, but highly recommended.)
In July, Jacquemus’ spring ‘21 collection included countless belly-baring silhouettes, in the form of crop tops and unbuttoned high-rise skirts. Later that season, midriffs were on display during Paris Fashion Week: At Christopher Esber, crisscrossing, floss-like strings adorned the waists of models; at Chanel, bra tops were paired with low-rise, drawstring pants that provided minimal coverage; and at Miu Miu, the Sporty-meets-Baby-Spice collection featured tank tops that showcased the belly button area. Even Hermes unexpectedly made a case for wearing a leather bralette.
Now, with summer around the corner and a returned sense of excitement in the air, this bare-all mentality is leaving the runways and at last entering our real-life wardrobes. According to digital shopping platform ShopStyle, a number of brands that debuted midriffs in their spring collections experienced significant year-over-year search growth upon the season’s arrival, including Orseund Iris (up 100%), Christopher Esber (53%), Jacquemus (24%), and Jonathan Simkhai (14%). Compared to last year, search for “crop tops” and “cut out tops” has increased by 40% and 75%, respectively. “The exposed midriff is here to stay,” says Alison Stiefel, the general manager at ShopStyle. “Early indicators are showing this trend is evolving. We expect midriff floss styles to be one of the top fashion trends of the [spring and] summer.”
The proof isn’t just in the numbers. On Instagram, as your favorite influencers transition from puffers to mini dresses and sets, the midriff has become everyone’s favorite “accessory.” Imani Randolph posed in a peek-a-boo Poster Girl dress with cut-outs galore; Jenny Walton paired a cropped bra-cardigan set with low-rise jeans, showing off her midsection behind a floral handbag; and Ireanna Bradshaw chose a cut-out co-ord that we’re now yearning to buy.
As for why this trend is making such a splash in fashion, the reasoning is the same as for why lingerie’s being worn as outerwear and belly chains are a thing again. After a year spent inside, where we wrapped ourselves in protective layers of jersey and puffy materials akin to a hug, we’re feeling ready to shed fabric and show our bodies off, be it in a pair of tiny shorts à la Paul Mescal or a Jacquemus-inspired midriff-baring crop top. Hell, why not try both? Maybe even together!
Below, shop some of our favorite cropped and cut-out tops.
