Straight From The Runway To Your Closet — These NYFW Trends Are Ready To Shop
The most significant trend of the entire week, though, was entirely invisible. Brands stressed the importance of sustainability, both with big commitments and small gestures, which included slowing down the trend cycle. That meant many of last season's biggest trends continued to be popular, as designers incorporated them into their fall '20 collections in ways that felt fresh and original. For example, the leather looks first introduced at last season’s Tibi show were given a second life for colder weather at Coach, Rag & Bone, and Gabriela Hearst. Corsets and other wearable lingerie also made a second appearance during the fall ‘20 season at Eckhaus Latta, Brock Collection, and Sandy Liang.
In other words, rather than feeling pressured to retire what you bought last September, we’re proud to report that your past purchases won’t be going stale anytime soon.
Because of this welcome change to the fashion landscape, many of the most talked-about trends of the week are already available to shop both new and secondhand, making it more convenient than ever before to take NYFW off your mood board and into your wardrobe. Click through our guide of the fall ‘20 runway pieces that are available to shop right now.

Our Favorite NYFW Trends Were The Most Dramatic
Gucci Turned The Backstage Into The Runway This Season
Alessandro Michele has a flair for making fashion feel like religion. Gucci certainly inspires devotion. From its dedicated following (customers on waiting lists to cop the latest drop) and band of disciples (Harry Styles, Florence Welch, Jared Leto et al) to its charismatic leader (Michele’s hair and beard speak for themselves), there’s definitely something to the church of Gucci.
It’s apt, then, that the Italian powerhouse’s fall ’20 show was called ‘The Ritual’. An hour before the event, the maverick creative director published the handwritten show notes to Instagram. “I have always considered the fashion show as a magic event bursting with enchantment. A liturgical action that suspends the ordinary, loading it with an excess of intensity. A procession of epiphanies and expanded thoughts that settle into a different partition of the sensible.”
This season, in typical Michele fashion, the designer flipped the script and turned the catwalk show inside out. After paying tribute to the beauty and drama of the fashion show, he went on to say: “There’s something though, in this ceremony, that usually stays buried: the struggle of the parturient that accompanies the tremble of creation; the mother’s womb where poetry blooms, from shape to shape. Therefore, I decided to unveil what lies behind the curtains. May the miracle of skillful hands and holding breath come out of the shadows.”
An ode to the creative process that we’re rarely privy to, guests found themselves watching a typically off-limits part of the spectacle: the backstage area. Turning the catwalk itself into a rotating stage, behind a tinted screen, models got dressed from rails of hanging clothes. As each model put on their look from the collection, they took their place at the front of the carousel, standing still like mannequins in a shop window as the stage turned around the room.
All of Gucci’s eclectic aesthetic codes were there: pilgrim-esque black dresses with staid white bibs, sweet seafoam suiting, froufrou gowns reminiscent of Marie Antoinette, ‘80s ruffles galore, XXL collars, lashings of costume jewelry, and paintbox-bright babydolls and shell tops. Our favorite look was, incidentally, an outfit free of maximalist trappings: a simple white blouse, oversized jeans, and a brown shoulder bag.
Michele’s genius is that he has created a brand with such an identifiable DNA that its latest offering is never about seasonal trends or must-have pieces, but a look — a mood? — that anyone and everyone can partake in if they wish.
Hypnotic music featuring parade horns and drumroll beats added to the high-octane drama of the show and, as the crescendo swelled, models walked offstage and down a flight of stairs to glide around a surrounding catwalk. As they circled the room, people in gray suits took their places at the carousel’s window. Who are these uniformed men and women? The collection’s stylists? Gucci’s craftspeople, the ones who bring the collection to life once Michele’s vision has been laid out?
Just as the fashion industry was starting to question the role and relevance of fashion month — and the catwalk show more specifically — Alessandro Michele blows old notions out of the water and reminds us that there’s still beauty and awe and meaning in fashion yet.
As the show notes read: “The congregation lingers, awaiting with open hands. A pin drop silence, to receive my uneven heartbeats and my thrills. I offer my poetics to this tribe of emancipated spectators. May they use it to wonder. May they help me understand it. They can use it to reawaken dormant questions.”

Net-A-Porter’s Annual Sale Just Got 20% Better
As we speak, Zara’s sale rages on with most styles up to 75% off, Urban Outfitters is temporarily slashing their in-house jeans brand BDG by 30%, and Need Supply’s offering Nanushka, Ganni, and Paloma Wool for a fraction of their original prices. But of all the deals going on this week, the one we’re putting our money into is the sale happening now at Net-A-Porter.
For the last four months, we’ve been logging onto the site, scanning the merchandise, and abandoning our still-full carts in the hope that in another week, the Loewe flats, Marni skirt, or Ganni sundress that’s been calling our names since November will at last find itself available within our budgets. And friends? That time is now.
This week, Net-A-Porter launched the last leg of its winter sale, marking down whatever designer pieces are left by an additional 20%. We’re talking Acne Studios knits for under-$200, $550 leather pants by Sies Marjan, and Sleeper sets for just $100. So before the sale of all sales goes unshopped, click through the best designer pieces left at Net-A-Porter’s winter sale.
