Allbirds & Adidas Are Teaming Up To Design A Sneaker With The “Lowest Ever Carbon Footprint”
San Francisco-based sneaker brand Allbirds rarely shies away from a challenge. When faced with the issue of petroleum-based, and therefore wholly unsustainable, sneaker soles, the brand took matters into their own hands, developing “SweetFoam,” the first-ever EVA foam made of sugarcane to be used as an alternative. Now, with the footwear industry’s carbon problem at top of mind, Allbirds is once again tackling the issue of sustainability head-on. This time, though, they’re not doing it alone.
Today, the tech-savvy start-up announced an industry-defining collaboration with sports giant Adidas to create a truly carbon-neutral sneaker. According to a press release, the sneaker that results from the team-up, which has been in the works for nine months thus far, will “accelerate solutions to reduce the 700M metric tons of carbon dioxide emitted by the footwear industry annually.”

“There is an urgent need to reduce our global carbon number, and this mission is bigger than just Allbirds or Adidas,” says the co-CEO of Allbirds Tim Brown. “Whether we realize it or not this is a race that we are all running together as a planet and it is one that trumps the day-to-day competition of individual companies.”
Adidas is showing an equally high level of dedication to the end goal. “Our brands don’t want to just participate in the sustainability conversation,” says Adidas’s VP of Brand Strategy James Carnes, “we want to continue being catalysts and creators of substantial improvement.”
According to the release, “the carbon footprint of a typical pair of running shoes made of synthetic materials is between 11.3 and 16.7 kg CO2.” That footprint, as we know, contributes to climate change. Now consider how many sneakers you’ve purchased and thrown away in your lifetime alone. Add to that the number of sneakers bought and later discarded by the other members in your family, your friend group, your co-workers, and so on. Suffice to say, the carbon footprint from all of those purchases adds up.
Given that both AllBirds and Adidas have already put in place their own commitments toward carbon neutrality — AllBirds with its Tread Lighter program, which showcases the brand’s dedication to measure and reduce emissions; Adidas with its quest to reduce its footprint by 30% by 2030 before becoming entirely carbon neutral by 2050 via the End Plastic Waste campaign — you’ll be hard-pressed to find two companies more equipped to take on this task than these.
“Our great hope is that this partnership will catalyze other people to share both their best ideas and research so that we can work together in the fight to live more sustainably,” says Brown. “This is a problem that won’t be solved by one company alone.”
No official dates have been announced, but, given the task at hand, we’ll wait as long as it takes. In the meantime, rest easy knowing that the future of sustainable footwear is in good hands.

The Swimsuits & Cover-Ups You’ll Want To Wear All Summer Long (No Matter Where You Are)
While we know you’d rather be globetrotting or hopping from one BBQ to the next, social-distancing guidelines, unfortunately, mandate otherwise. Chances are, even in spite of regions that are reopening, out of an abundance of caution, you’ll be spending your summer in your backyard or on your fire escape with those you’ve been quarantined with. It's frustrating for sure, but that doesn't mean summer 2020 is canceled. You can easily have a hot girl summer in the privacy of your home — and with a dope swimsuit, too. That’s why Unbothered partnered with Target to round up five swimwear-and-cover-up combinations for every mood and for every activity you might find yourself doing (lounging on your deck with a cocktail counts!). We guarantee these pairings will get your Black girl magic stamp of approval — take a look.

Sophia Bush Is Selling A Look From One Of Her “Absolute Favorite” One Tree Hill Moments
Like many of us, Sophia Bush is using her free time in quarantine to Marie Kondo her wardrobe, but, unlike the items gathering dust in the back of our closets, what she dug up is actually something many would like to get their hands on.
Today, the One Tree Hill actress and activist announced a 24-hour collaboration with online thrift store thredUP, for which she’s auctioning off fashion items from her One Tree Hill days as the Ravens-cheerleader-turned-fashion-designer Brooke Davis. All of the proceeds will go to Feeding America, an organization that works to ensure that anyone who’s hungry right now has access to food. In the auction, which started at 11am on Thursday and will run for 24 hours, you’ll find items like a Tree Hill Ravens cheerleader T-shirt, signed by the head cheerleader herself. Also in the mix is a long-sleeved T-shirt designed by Peyton Sawyer that reads, “High School Forever,” and a memorabilia bundle which includes a signed basketball from the show and the back cover off of Bush’s cast chair.
Memorabilia from the animated Pixar movie Incredibles 2 and the Netflix series Easy, both of which Bush starred in, are also included in today’s auction.

But of all the items being auctioned off today, the one that has us feeling most nostalgic for our friends in Tree Hill is the jacket — a cropped tweed blazer that epitomizes ‘00s fashion — that Brooke wore for the Clothes Over Bros campaign photoshoot in the show’s fifth season. In a press release, Bush called the photoshoot “one of [her] absolute favorite moments on set with the ladies!”
“Going through my momentos was such a special trip down memory lane… lifelong friendships, laughs, and learning,” Bush added. “It feels really meaningful to give these items one final squeeze and share them with people.”
With One Tree Hill fans being as die-hard as we know them to be (and as we are, too), we can only begin to imagine what the bidding will come down to. For the jacket, a size XS from Forever 21, the bidding is starting at $20. By Monday, when the auction winners are announced, we’ll know just how loyal fans are to Team Brooke — and how deep their pockets are.
Before the bidding gets too high, grab your proverbial paddle and head to thredUP’s Instagram to join in on the action.

UGG & Eckhaus Latta Tap Model Guinevere van Seenus For Their Second Collaboration
The collection, which first appeared at Eckhaus Latta’s spring ‘20 NYFW runway show last September, includes eight new unisex styles: two heeled lace-up sandals, two ‘00s-inspired platform clogs, two sneakers, a boot, and a shearling-free version of the now-iconic square toe mules from the first collection.
The campaign imagery, shot by fashion and still life photographer Zoe Ghertner, shows models Guinevere van Seenus and Frank Ayzenberg lazing on a floating dock surrounded by water. According to the brands, the minimalistic campaign was inspired by nature.
“We wanted to push forward concepts from last season, exploring the expanse of nature while attempting to confine it to create a sense of isolation in its vastness,” said Mike Eckhaus and Zoe Latta, the design duo behind Eckhaus Latta, in a press release.
The collection was inspired by the works of two French painters: Jean-François Millet, known for his depictions of landscapes in rural France, and Paul Gauguin, whose post-Impressionist paintings employed bold colors like cobalt blue and cadmium yellow. According to the release, the campaign was meant to “communicate serenity through landscape, while the apparent alien vastness and majesty evoke feelings of simplicity, beauty, light, and isolation.”

Leather Shorts Are Back For Summer — Here’s How To Wear Them
Thanks to fall ‘20 Fashion Month street style, where fashion’s finest brought attention to the cropped alternative to leather pants, we’ve started seeing the fabric as a more seasonless trend, rather than something we can only break out when temperatures start to go down. Across fashion’s capitals, we saw leather variations ranging from brightly colored paper bag shorts to extra-long Bermudas, all styled alongside summery footwear like ‘90s strappy sandals courtesy of By Far, braided mules by Bottega Veneta, and animal print boots from Khaite. By opting for loose styles and pairing them with breathable tops like cotton tank tops, linen button-downs, heck, even bra tops, taking leather shorts into the warmer months will be a breeze.
Ahead, see how street style stars in Paris, Milan, London, and New York introduced leather into our warm-weather wardrobes. And while you’re at it, shop the summer silhouette for yourself.
