Lady Gaga’s 9 Face Masks Won Her Best-Dressed At The VMAs
In addition to her three standout performances, one of which was a duet with “Rain On Me” co-singer Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga sent quite the message at last night’s VMAs: “Wear a mask.” For the event, the singer, who took home five awards, including one for Artist of the Year and Song of the Year, wore nine looks — five more than at the 2019 Met Gala — each of which included its very own face covering.
With the help of her longtime stylist Nicola Formichetti, Gaga kept the pandemic and the safety of everyone at last night’s event at the forefront, while also maintaining her reputation as one of fashion’s most daring dressers — especially at award shows. (After all, it’s Lady Gaga who showed up to the VMAs wearing a dress made of meat 10 years ago.) The masks showcased last night included a horn style that she wore alongside a straight-off-the-runway Christopher John Rogers gown, a fish-bowl-esque face covering that paired with her fall ‘20 futuristic mini dress by Area, and a number of other can't-miss masks that the singer used during performances.
Check out all of Lady Gaga’s looks (and masks) from the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards, by clicking through the slideshow ahead.

6 Celebrity-Approved Ways To Wear A Bucket Hat
There’s a reason why fashion can’t seem to shake the bucket hat trend, which was popularized by LL Cool J in the ‘90s and reinstated into fashion’s “in” list during the spring ‘18 season when Kaia Gerber wore a transparent, plastic version on Chanel’s catwalk. (Michael Kors, Matthew Adams Dolan, and Fenty x Puma also showcased bucket hats during the same season, the latter’s rendition being modeled by Slick Woods.) The cap’s ability to add an unexpected touch to any look — from streetwear get-ups to lady-like ensembles — while also keeping your unbrushed tresses in check, gives them priority in our wardrobes over basic baseball caps and beanies. It doesn’t hurt that Prada, Burberry, and Ganni all sell covetable iterations — ranging from leopard print to fuzzy fabrics — of the throwback hat style.
Now, with superfans in Rihanna, Hailey Bieber, Dua Lipa (and bf Anwar Hadid), and Kylie Jenner, as well as the entire crowd at Copenhagen Fashion Week, the bucket hat has surpassed the trend phase and is quickly becoming a staple in our fall wardrobes.
See how your favorite celebrities style their bucket hats and shop our favorites by clicking through the slideshow, ahead. And now that this trend is here to stay, you’d be smart to snag more than one.

Fall’s Biggest Fashion Trends Are All About Comfort
Following fashion month, we predicted which fall 2020 trends would go on to garner real-life acclaim come fall. Genderless bows — worn in a tomboy style around the collars of models at Celine, and more feminine-like hair embellishments at Chanel — extra large belts, BDE (Big Dress Energy), and leather were some of the most standout moments from the season.
But a lot has changed in six months, and what was desirable pre-COVID-19 doesn’t necessarily work now. And now that fall is almost here, it’s not necessarily the fringed leather pants that we want to reach for. Luckily, in addition to showy accoutrements like embellished collars, billowing fringe, and Western-style corsets, the fall ‘20 fashion season also had its fair shade of quarantine-ready trends.
It’s as if designers — from Paco Rabanne’s Julien Dossena to Rick Owens and Demna Gvasalia at Balenciaga — knew something was coming. How else would they have predicted our need for layers and layers of cozy wears for what will undoubtedly be a season spent indoors, away from friends and wrapped in only the most comfortable of clothing? Or, for that matter, garments that resemble the confines of our own homes (read: carpet dresses and quilted jackets). Or, ensembles designed for the end of the world? Did they have a really good astrologist? A crystal ball? Either way, we’re grateful for their foresight.
Ahead, we’ve lined out the fall 2020 fashion trends that will actually get us out of our sweatpants this coming season.
Before the pandemic, quilted coats were used as comfort wear, for when we couldn’t be at home curled up in bed and, instead, had to get up and commute to the office in chilly fall weather. Now, many of us don’t go to work. Home is our office, and quilted blankets are galore. But sometimes, we need a reminder of what life was like when we didn’t work on the sofa — or worse, in bed. That’s what this trend is for. Slip on a warm, quilted coat (that is, once it’s not 90 degrees out) by Balenciaga or Ganni, and step outside. You’ll feel like you’re wrapped in a cozy blanket even while out of bed.
Covered in intricate jacquard patterns that you would typically find on carpets, these print-forward garments by the likes of Acne Studios, Marine Serre, and Paco Rabanne are a must for fall. Similar to a big, quilted coat, a carpet coat or dress will feel like wearing a piece of home. Opt for pieces made of luxe velvet (like at Marine Serre), and pair with heavy, medieval-esque jewelry (à la Paco Rabanne), for a stylish touch.
At the height of quarantine, matching loungewear sets were all anyone wanted to wear. Entireworld was selling out of them almost immediately upon restocking, as were brands like Richer Poorer and Pangaia. Come fall, though, as some of us prepare to return to work, sweatpants may not be an option anymore. But, that doesn’t mean that you can’t still find comfort in a matching set. That’s where these co-ords courtesy of Lacoste and Arthur Arbesser come in. They’re still comfortable and easy to throw on and go, but also elevated. Take the look a step further up the fashion ladder with a matching skirt and turtleneck set, like those presented at Carolina Herrera.
Perhaps the most prominent trend of the fall ‘20 season, the untailored look first showed itself in Copenhagen during Ganni’s runway show, where creative director Ditte Reffstrup paired an oversized pinstripe suit with a prairie collar and lug-soled rain boots. Later in London, both Preen and Margaret Howell offered their iterations of the slouchy silhouette, with ‘70s-style three-piece suits at the former and belted and billowing trousers at the latter. In Milan, Alessandro Michele’s behind-the-scenes Gucci catwalk showed a model wearing a pair of plaid puddle pants with a pink satin blouse, bow-embellished mesh gloves, and wire-rimmed glasses, while Tod’s offered a boy-ish alternative, styling a camel-colored oversized blazer with baggy, blue trousers, sneakers, and a backward poplin shirt. And the best part? The bigger the suiting, the better it is for taking Zoom calls on the couch. What? You’re still technically work-appropriate.
When Rick Owens, Marine Serre, and Balenciaga showcased fall collections designed for what appeared to be the end of days, COVID-19 panic had already started taking hold of Europe, making the sci-fi scenes at each of the aforementioned shows — from water-covered runways on an all-black backdrop at Balenciaga to an intergalactic escape at Marine Serre — even more unnerving than intended. Now that we’ve gotten used to wearing masks, gloves, and clothing meant to distance us physically from others and protect against the spread, these collections aren’t so scary after all — in actuality, they’re more practical than any others presented during Fashion Month.
Sweaters for fall aren’t exactly groundbreaking. But somehow, despite advances in knitwear rarely surprising us, this season’s selection felt fresher than those before it. It’s as if designers like Daniel Lee at Bottega Veneta and Jil Sander’s Lucie and Luke Meier were aware of our future need for cozy quarantine sweaters (as many as possible!) even before we were. Crystal ball or no, we’re more than ready to double (or triple) up on our knitwear once the leaves fall and the temperatures drop come fall.

H&M And Sandra Mansour’s New Collection Will Benefit The Lebanese Red Cross
Less than a month ago, H&M was gearing up to launch another of its signature designer collaborations, this time with Beirut-based womenswear brand Sandra Mansour. Then, on August 4, an explosion in the Lebanese capital left thousands wounded and nearly 200 dead. The collection release was postponed due to the events. Now it’s here and includes a $100,000 donation from the Swedish fashion brand to the Lebanese Red Cross.
The 15-piece H&M x Sandra Mansour collection is available starting Thursday, both in stores and online. According to Mansour, the brand’s CEO and founder, the collection, from the start, was intended to be a message of hope, “something we really need right now,” she said in the press release.
The collection, titled “Fleur du Soleil,” was inspired by female artists, like Toyen, Dorothea Tanning, Lena Leclercq, and Bibi Zogbe, as well as nature. She was especially drawn to the sunflower, which, according to Mansour, “represents the cycle of life, and its dependency on sun and light.” The fabrics, which include dark lace, jacquards, and embroidered organza, were inspired by paintings.
The result includes feminine, yet edgy dresses, tops, and skirts, each with a touch of frill and delicacy, in a natural color scheme of taupe, black, and white. Gold earrings, rings, and headbands are also featured throughout, with pieces starting at just $12.99.
For the campaign, the Fleur du Soleil collection was photographed in a fairytale-like forest setting. “The first things you notice about Mansour’s designs are their dreamy qualities and sheer beauty, but then you get further drawn into the craftsmanship, the storytelling, and the modern youthfulness,” says Maria Ostbom, H&M’s Head of Womenswear Design. “There’s also something empowering about the femininity.”

H&M's New Collection Is Dead-On For Fall 2020
Gloria Steinem Gave Meghan Markle A Bracelet With A Special Message
Earlier this week, Meghan Markle had feminist icon Gloria Steinem over, in her backyard in Montecito, California. During the talk, which was recorded, the two discussed representation, doing what you love, and the importance of young people voting in this election. For the chat, Steinem wore her signature oversized glasses and all-black. Markle, on the hand, looked summery in a white T-shirt, striped Anine Bing trousers, and a big, straw hat courtesy of Janessa Leoné. It was the Duchess’ subtle choice of jewelry — that was gifted to her by Steinem! — that most caught our eye during their chat.
Adorned on Markle’s left wrist was a charm bracelet inscribed with a very meaningful message: “Imagine we are linked, not ranked,” referring to the importance of women not comparing themselves, but, instead, joining together to empower each other. The bracelet retails at $48 via Maiden Nation. In the interview, Steinem says that the phrase, for her, is the “shortest way [she has] ever found to say what [her] goal is.” To this, Markle responded: “It means everything to me on every level. We are linked, not ranked.”
Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex and @GloriaSteinem discuss representation, why each vote matters and how all women “are linked, not ranked.” MAKERS has an exclusive look at that historic backyard chat! 🙌 Q&A to come tomorrow! https://t.co/e0WY2hjTju pic.twitter.com/AExOmNdWIb
— MAKERS (@MAKERSwomen) August 25, 2020
Unfortunately, both the red and black colorways of the Imagine We Are Linked Not Ranked bracelet are currently sold out. But: A restock is coming!
This is hardly the first time that Markle has worn jewelry with meaning. During a trip to Botswana in 2017, the Duchess of Sussex was photographed wearing the “Hamsa Ring,” a symbol of good luck and health, from Turkish jewelry designer Kismet by Milka. She wore the ring again in 2018 while she was pregnant. Following Archie’s birth, Markle debuted an eternity ring, a symbol of eternal love and circle of life. Her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, also received an eternity ring from Prince William following the birth of their first child, Prince George. Markle has also been known to wear a Mummy necklace in honor of Archie.
Given the important message, it’s only likely that this new bracelet will be another regular in Markle’s jewelry rotation.

H&M Read Our Minds With a New Collection That’s Comfy & Just A Little Bit Dressed Up
At this point in the program — the program being a dramedy titled What Else Could This Year Possibly Throw At Us — you might be feeling the inexplicable urge to get dressed up. This does check out, given that we’ve been deprived of most events that call for disco pants since March, but what if there was a way to revive some of that special-occasion feeling — while maintaining the non-stop comfort from which we might never recover?
To up the ante from “WFH” to “smart-casual WFH,” consider H&M‘s Fall 2020 collection, where you’ll find sweatshirts and house dresses alongside in-season dark florals, some Big Collar Energy, and a not insignificant amount of leather. No, none of the looks ahead involve taffeta ball gowns, but in a time when fleece has become the true fabric of our lives, even a little bit of effort counts for a lot.
Warning: This Peter Pan-collar sweatshirt may induce staring at yourself during video meetings. Your bottom half, though out of frame, is equally attention-grabbing in a leather mini — yes, it’s probably been a minute since you thought to wear one, but a) breathability and b) keep getting fully dressed. That this fit is reminiscent of a certain spooky, midweekly named daughter only comes as a bonus.
And they said denim was dead. Not so when it’s roomy, mom-cut jeans and their Canadian tuxedo other half, accented with a hot pink top and accessories you could definitely invent the next viral dance sequence in.
Here, we’re recalling ’90s grunge, not the other kind one might associate with early-quar unkemptness. Mixed prints in the same color family help keep the ensemble from getting too busy, while a knit beanie adds the coziness we won’t soon give up.
Why yes, that is a leather dress. It might feel like A Bit Much for your living room, but that’s what a self timer is for: documenting a monochromatic Scandi-Gallic hybrid that could’ve walked straight off the Fall 2020 runway. Styling note: Tuck the blouse in so that only the collar protrudes.
