Chelsea Vaughn’s Dress Stole The Show During The Bachelor Premiere — Here’s Who Designed It

THE BACHELOR – “2501” – Matt James, the charismatic and engaging star of ABC’s hit romance reality series “The Bachelor,” will hand out the roses for its momentous 25th season. After meeting Matt as a prospective suitor for “The Bachelorette,” Bachelor Nation swooned when they learned he would take on the role as the lead of his own love story. Matt is the total package with strong family values, a great career, and has used his growing platform for good. His emerging legion of fans can’t wait to follow the 28-year-old real estate broker, entrepreneur and community organization founder on his journey to find love during this historic season. Although Matt hasn’t been in love before, he feels he is ready now to welcome it into his life—no matter what challenges he will face—as he starts his search for his happily ever after on the season premiere of “The Bachelor,” MONDAY, JAN. 4 (8:00-10:00 p.m. EST), on ABC. (ABC/Craig Sjodin) CHELSEA, MATT JAMES

And just like that, Bachelor Nation is back. Two weeks after Tayshia Adams received her emerald-cut engagement ring (featuring 95 diamonds!) from contestant Zac Clark on the Season 16 finale of The Bachelorette, 2020 Bachelor Matt James took the helm on the 25th season of The Bachelor. And though we’re only one episode in, one thing is already clear: Chelsea Vaughn will go down as one of the best-dressed contestants to join the franchise ranks.

On Monday night’s premiere, Vaughn debuted a dress unlike those we’re used to on ABC’s hit dating show: a black, backless gown with cut-outs galore. “You look incredible,” James told Vaughn when the two first met. “Wow, she is wearing that dress,” he added while watching Vaughn walk into the cocktail party.

During the episode, Twitter and Instagram alike blew up with praise about the style, saying Vaughn and her dress already deserve to win and that the model “ran from NYFW in her designer dress to the Bachelor mansion.” (The latter included a GIF of Paris Hilton running to her car.) Others begged for more information on the dress, with the biggest question, naturally, being: Who designed it?

The designer behind Vaughn’s dress is A’kai Littlejohn, an 18-year-old CFFA Emerging Designer of the Year recipient who was also a contestant on Project Runway Junior’s second season. Based in New York, Littlejohn debuted his first collection at New York Fashion Week in 2017 during the spring ‘18 season.

The dress, named the Emilia Gown, was plucked from his spring ‘21 collection, titled The Breakwater Collection, which was inspired by the beaches in New York’s Eastern Long Island. Given that it’s a spring piece, Vaughn’s exact gown won’t be available to shop until next season. That said, similar styles are, including a navy blue, cut-out, silk dress ($995) and a low-back, spaghetti strap slip ($995) in the same shade. For something more affordable yet equally statement-making, dare we suggest a cow-print face mask ($20)?

Vaughn, a 28-year-old from Brooklyn, is a runway model, so we expected her to dress the part on the show. But nothing could’ve prepared us for a dress this good immediately out the gate.

Below, check out the buzz around Vaughn’s Bachelor premiere gown.

Alexander Wang Denies Sexual Assault Allegations

On Monday, Alexander Wang released a statement on his personal Instagram page following allegations of sexual assault against the New York fashion designer. In the statement, Wang called the allegations, which include rape, groping, and drugging, “false [and] fabricated.”

“These baseless allegations were started on social media by sites which repeatedly disregarded the value and importance of evidence or fact checking,” he wrote. The post also stated that Wang’s “team” is currently investigating the claims made against him. “I promise to remain honest and transparent throughout that process.”

Monday’s post follows a statement that Wang shared with The New York Times on New Year’s Eve. “Over the last few days, I have been on the receiving end of baseless and grotesquely false accusations,” he wrote. “I never engaged in the atrocious behavior described and would never conduct myself in the manner that’s been alleged.”

The allegations started when model Owen Mooney posted a TikTok video on December 13. According to Mooney’s video, the model was in a crowded New York City club in 2017 when he felt someone touching him. “I was by myself at one point and this guy next to me obviously took advantage of the fact that no one could fucking move and he just started like touching me up, like, fully up my leg and in my crotch,” he said in the video. “It made me freeze completely.” In the original video, Mooney left out the name of the designer who he allegedly saw when he turned to face the person who touched him, calling him “a really famous fashion designer.”

That same day, after receiving a comment on the original video that said “It’s Alexander Wang,” Mooney released another video, confirming that it was Wang. “I thought, in the previous video, that the best thing to do was to not mention any names, but this comment surprised me just because they actually got it right. Turns out, Alexander Wang is a massive sexual predator and there have been a load of other people he’s done this to,” Mooney said. “It’s just really fucked up that people with this type of status think their power gives them this type of pass to be able to do this to people,” he continued.

Following Mooney’s release of the videos, Instagram account Shit Model Management posted, “Alexander Wang is an alleged sexual predator. Many male models and trans models have come out and spoken about the alleged sexual abuse that Alexander Wang has inflicted upon them.” The post also reposted Mooney’s video and shared the anonymous stories of other alleged victims in a slideshow. One alleged that Wang gave the author MDMA without their consent, sending them into a “manic episode followed by psychosis.” Another claimed Wang “raped [his] friend.”

After the post went live, fashion watchdog Diet Prada reposted Shit Model Management’s post, as well as Mooney’s video and screenshots from the model’s Instagram stories that provided more detail into his claim. The account also brought up the fact that Wang cast R. Kelly, who was charged with 10 counts of rape in 2019, in his spring ’17 campaign.

According to The New York Times, the same year that the incident Mooney described took place, New York DJ Nick Ward posted on Twitter that Wang “grabbed his genitals at a Brooklyn concert.” Two years later, in 2019, rapper Azealia Banks shared a series of anonymous allegations on her Instagram stories from people who said they were also groped by the designer.

Refinery29 has reached out to the designer’s team for further comment.

Gwen Stefani Recreated Her Engagement Look — & Flashed Her Ring — In New Music Video

To ring in the new year, Gwen Stefani released a music video for her single titled “Let Me Reintroduce Myself.” In it, she pays homage to her many career hits (and sartorial high points), from “Bananas” to “Just A Girl.” But that’s not all she reminisced about in the nearly four-minute visual. Stefani also “reintroduced” us to her radiant engagement ring from her The Voice co-star Blake Shelton.

At the two-minute mark of the video, Stefani — dressed in the same baseball T-shirt and trucker hat she wore in the couple’s engagement announcement photos — flashes her left hand, giving us a close-up look at her stunning three-stone ring. “Got a smile on my face. Go ahead and pass it on,” Stefani sings while pointing at the rock. In the video, Stefani also wears three gold necklaces: Two with diamond nameplates — one with “Stefani” on it and the other with “Shelton” — and a cross pendant.

But jewelry wasn’t the only stylish standout from the video. Also included in “Let Me Reintroduce Myself” were throwback ensembles designed by Moschino, Jeremy Scott, R13, and Next In Fashion’s Marco Morante.

According to Stefani’s Instagram, the video features 18 looks in total, all inspired by her music journey, dating back to 1995. “What an incredible experience to recreate original mes with my talented team,” she captioned the slideshow of looks, which she chose in coordination with stylist Rob Zangardi.

Without further ado, wax nostalgic about your favorite music moments from Stefani’s past and catch another glimpse of her engagement ring in the video below.
